Hi, my FH will not have his passport by the time we go on our honeymoon. I've read that an enhanced driver's license will get you from the US will get you to Canada, Mexico and some parts of the Caribbean. I can't find WHICH parts... I want to book a western Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, but I want to make sure he can go. I've been to the carnival cruise line website and some other gov't sites, but none are really clear.

The reason FH won't have his passport is that he owes child support for his 16 year old daughter. He had her when he was 18 and when he went to college (5 years) and grad school, he was only paying the interest. It's at like 7k now. They are taking arrears out of his check, but it barely puts a dent in it. So, his application is being held up.

Interest only and interest does not bring down the amount owed- obviously.

That being said, we are paying a little short of 850 a month. That is more than plenty.

I appreciate the concern and definitely the time you all took to answer the question. I do not need budget help, though. The balance will be paid off by year's end and the world will be our proverbial oyster!

Passport is required for cruising...however you can get the passport expedited and it will only take 6-8 weeks instead of 3-6 months, you need to order his passport ASAP! Smiley smile

@Meg and others who believe a passport is required - if you would actually look at the government sites that show what the regulations actually are for cruising, you would see that a closed loop cruise does not require a passport, it's recommended but NOT required.

If you show up at the cruise port without a passport, they will not allow you to board the ship, and you will lose 100% of what you paid for your cruise.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about closed loop cruises. While some will allow you to board without a passport that leaves and returns to the same US Port, if something should happen while you're in the Bahamas, and you need to be flown home from there, you would have to have a passport to enter the country. But time and time again we see stories about cruisers who show up for closed loop cruises only to be turned away at the port because they have no passport.

The enhanced license or passport card only allows you to drive across the border to certain areas. It will not work for a cruise.
