Passport Name Change Timing Issues

Samantha, on January 20, 2024 at 9:50 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 3

I am changing my name and wondering about some logistics. I am getting married June 9. I am going on an international trip July 9-19, start a new job August 12, and then my honeymoon is September 30. I need to have my name changed before the new job in August starts. Can I start the name change process in June (except for the passport) and use my old passport for the July trip, then get a new passport for the September trip? Or do I wait to do the name change process until after July 19 and hope I can get my new driver's license before August 12 and new passport before September 30?

You could do a name change now and get set up in that new name with a passport and other stuff. It would likely have to be changed through a court proceeding instead of a simpler process.

Try this website for some answers us-passport-service-guide -- maybe there are other sites too. There are various questions asked and answered there. Probably, in addition to the SSN change, the drivers license might be the only other change to be done quickly. The other issue is that the name on the flight tickets must generally match your IDs. It could be dependent on the speed of the social security admin if you are trying to rush things through.

I would just change everything but the passport in June and then go to the passport office as soon as you get back from the July trip so you'll have your new passport for the September trip.

I agree with changing everything but your passport in June (make sure your flight is still booked in maiden name). The first thing to do is social secuirty, then from there you can do your drivers license and everything else. From there, you can take your time doing your passport.
