Parking

Tamika, on June 17, 2018 at 11:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
My mother is driving me crazy about PARKING! She can't believe guest will have to pay for parking around our wedding venue. I live in a big city, but she lives in a little town. The area has free parking but is limited and prices are different depending on where they park. Should I put something on the website or let our guest (many who know you have to pay to park in our city) figure it out? If I put something on the website, how should I word it?

Definitely put it on the website. Something like:
While there is some limited free parking at the venue, please be prepared for that to be full. There is also parking at 124 A st for 1 hour or 346 B st for $10 a day. Street parking is always a possibility but will naturally be limited and meters will not last longer than 3 hours and are strictly coin operated.

Put it on the website just so it's not made into a bigger deal. Most people know that in big cities you have to pay for parking

Keep it simple. Put the 1or 2 closest parking lots/ramps. I have attending weddings downtown and assumed I'd have to find a ramp or lot. Most people know you have to pay for parking in the city.

Yep, put it on the website! As a guest I would have no issues paying for parking if you provide me with the details in advance. I would want to know which street the entrance is on, how much it costs, if it requires cash, and whether I can leave my car overnight if things get rowdy.

I don't think it's a big deal and I wouldn't complain about paying as a guest. But I would appreciate a head's up so I know to bring cash, which I rarely have.

Add a section to your website that explains where the parking lots are. You can say "Venue lot is located... with free parking. Additional parking can be found at (Location) for a fee of $1 per hour." or something like that.

Does parkopedia cover your city? We used that on our website. Guests can find the cheapest or the closest parking in any neighborhood.

Put it on your website and some people have hired uber for transport from parking to venue that you can personally cover charges to appease your mother?

I had the same issue as I got married in Brooklyn. I googled parking lots around the venue, took a screen shot and pasted it in powerpoint doc. I then added arrows with the lot prices, saved it as a jpeg and posted it to my wedding site. I was so worried about it. Turned out there was tons of street parking since it was a Sunday in the summer and most people in downtown Brooklyn hightail it to the beach on the weekends.
