PARKING DILEMA!

Lily, on November 26, 2016 at 12:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hi ladies!

We are having a backyard wedding, with a taco truck so there is absolutely no parking in our yard; to assure the food and other vendors can come and go as needed.

We've planned to have guests park at a public school approximately 0.9miles down the road. We will be providing shuttle service (cheapest we've found was $550, just an fyi for other DIYers)

So how do we word this on invitation? Somehow it has to say absolutely no parking at our house or on the road (too busy) without sounding rude :/

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!

    Oy.

"Park at 475 main street, where there will be shuttle service to the event"

Honestly? I'd consider another venue. Even one mile in each direction is a schlepp when dealing with shuttles.

Maybe do an insert card with directions to the school?

I'm not sure exactly how you could check this, but you might want to check that the school won't have any activities on the grounds that day. I know it's summer, but lots of times local youth sports groups use schools for tournaments, etc. My school gets used for soccer and baseball/softball tournaments on the weekends sometimes, and it'll totally fill the parking lot.

I'd do as someone else suggested and have an insert...something along the lines of

'parking is available at 123 main St. A shuttle will be available to our venue every 20 minutes'

I would include it on an insert and also your wedsite. Parking for the event at ........... with shuttle service to the venue.

What about a valet service? I am having that, not because I am fancy lol, but the city restriction doesn't allow parking on the street. Our's is less than that 500, including a tip.

That way our guests arrive to the venue, not offsite.

I would just include a separate card indicating information for parking, because you can't really say all the details in one or two sentences

That should be included on an insert card, like hotel accommodations would be. You should also include that information on your wedding website but definitely on an insert card with the invite because not everyone will check the website.

Have you considered a valet company? or is it to far?

I'm have the same concerns that everyone else has. I'd probably suggest a valet service over the school parking lot/shuttle idea.

Also there are guys on this site too, just FYI.

Is there a lot you can rent locally and just do a valet service instead of shuttle?

1- Are you sure that this is okay? Have you spoken to the school and made 1000% sure that no one is going to get towed and this will not cause an issue?

2- Are the shuttles going to be available to do unlimited trips during the entire event? If someone wants to leave early or forgets their phone in their car and wants to get to their vehicle an hour into the event is there going to be a shuttle to take them? Or will they be SOL and have to walk or wait until the end of the event?

ETA: If answers are yes to both, as others said I would do an insert. I would also put it on the website. And I would also make a sign and put it at the end of your driveway so that people who forget/don't read can figure it out. "Parking is at ABC School...."

I would definitely put it on the website but also include an insert for those who are not computer savvy!

I recommend placing that information on an insert card

Insert card that says "Parking for our event is at Sam Jones Elementary at 123 Main Street Honolulu, Hawaii 12345" then "shuttle service provided"

I love that you're having a food truck, super cool! Just a tip as a recent guest of a food truck wedding... The food truck was the only food other than the desert table, for probably 100 guests. The line was So. Long. and we ended up leaving earlier than we would have because we were hungry, and I later heard they'd run out of food entirely. So! Not to say your vendor isn't wonderfully equipped, etc., just a tip from personal experience.
