Parent's gifts

Kelly, on September 14, 2017 at 5:50 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

What is everyone getting their parents as gifts for the wedding? I don't want to do the typical Pinteresty gift that has "Mother of the Bride" on it.

I'm giving my mom a necklace and that's it. She's the only one who has helped out.

We gave each set of parents and engraved frame, both dads engraved cufflinks. Then for my mom we got her a nice handkerchief and a necklace. For my dad we gave him a new grilling utensil kit. For MIL I handed her down a mother in law ceramic poem to hang up that I got from my grandmother, and a necklace. And for FIL we also got him a zip lighter with a belt holder because he loves that kind of stuff

We got our dad's wooden watches from Treehut, and necklaces for our moms with both our birth stones. Then an assortment of candies and little odds and ends they will appreciate.

I'm most likely getting my parents a gift certificate for a few local golf courses, a photo book once we get our pictures back, a bracelet for my mom and still unsure on what I'll get my dad and future in laws.

I'd like to get my mom a gift card for Carnival Cruise Line. That's the one thing I can think of that she would really really love.

We got my parents a stone birdbath engraved with dragonflies. They both love birds and garden stuff. My mom also collects dragonflies. We're getting his aunt and uncle a birdbath as well but haven't picked one out yet. ETA: oh hai five stars

We're giving my parents and FH's dad and sister a personal size bottle of a limited edition of champagne from one of their favorite brands with a flute that are giving them the morning of the wedding and each of them personalized coffee mugs that will be waiting for them on their beds when they come back after, that says "I survived my... wedding" and my parents' ones will say "daughter", FFIL's will say "son" and FSIL's will say "brother" (FSIL is standing up for their mom, who passed away 3 years ago)

I got both my parents a double picture frame and put a print of me and that parent when I was little on one side, and left the other side blank for a picture of that parent and I from the wedding. FH is going to do the same.

We got them a three opening picture frame so we can put one picture of each of us when we were little on the sides and then a picture of us from the wedding in the middle.

I'm probably just going to buy each of them a nice frame. Nothing more.

Neither set of parents has helped out in any way, besides being rudely opinionated, so this is more than enough for them!

I purchased an engraved tie clip for my dad that he can wear the day of. It says "Always your peanut" on it as he would call me peanut growing up.

For mom, I am getting us similar bracelets that we will both wear on my wedding day.

DH parents we gave them a gift card to Disney. They go there a fair amount and can use it for park admissions, or some of their fave restaurants. For my parents, we are thinking of either redoing or giving them money towards redoing their deck. Both will get a photo album or nice photos printed too.

Both sets of parents helped us with our wedding, which we were not expecting.

I just finished this task, yay! Didn't occur to me until a little late in the game but I think it's OK for scrambling- I found my dad this great Banana Republic tie with tiny vintage cars on it (it's his thing), for his wife who has been helpful and awesome I got her a super nice blanket that I plan to put a cheesy note with that says 'thanks for giving FH a warm welcome to the family', for my mom (who has been whatever the opposite of helpful is) a necklace that is her style. her husband dress socks with little motorcycles on them. FMIL gets a bracelet and FFIL gets nice socks which I'll put in the welcome bag they're getting since they're out of town, with a locally made candle, snacks, State souvenirs, State dish towel, a bunch of other stuff that escapes me, and I think it's all personal and thoughtful enough that the fact that we didn't spend a lot won't be noticeable. Yay everyone for checking something off the list!

My stepmom and dad gave me my grandma's wedding ring to use some of the diamonds in my band. My brother is fighting glioblastoma cancer and is 7 months past the year that the doctor gave him, but I don't know that he'll still be here next year. So what I'm going to do is leave the main diamond and replace the rest with my brother's birthstone and give it back to her. I think/hope that she'll really like that and then she can wear it that day. For my FH's mom, I was thinking of having a silver bracelet made for her and engraving the "thank you for raising the man of my dreams" on the inside.
