Parents Attire

Courtney, on March 26, 2020 at 1:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
Hello! What's everyone having their parents wear for the wedding? I want to give them a particular color but I'm not sure what color. Our colors are gold , navy and crimson red. My FH and I will both be wearing gold. My bridesmaids will be in navy (two of them are my sister's so they'll be in the family picture) and the groomsmen are wearing khaki suits (groomsmen are his brothers so they'll be in the family picture) and I believe my FH wants his dad to match his brothers/groomsmen in the khaki suit. I was thinking maybe the mom's or my dad should wear grey/silver but should my dad match his dad? I want the family picture to coordinate and complement with the colors. Any suggestions? They have all asked me what color they should wear. Thanks!

Since your groom wants the fathers to match the groomsmen, that's easy. i would maybe put the moms in a darker red or give them the option of grey/silver since the bridesmaids are in navy already.

Your dad should match the rest of them! It also could give your dad a chance to hang out with your FIL & the groomsmen at fittings etc. Your mom & MIL should wear whatever they feel comfortable in. My mom would never in a million years wear a black or a red dress and my MIL will wear very few dark colors because that's what she feels most comfortable in. I wouldn't ever want them to feel out of place or awkward at our wedding because of what I've asked them to wear!

That's a good idea! I'd love that but our fathers live in different states and we live in a different city than his parents ): but both of the moms asked me which color they should wear to narrow down what they like and I want to pick a color and let them pick whichever dress they want. Just wondering if grey/silver would complement

Thanks! So you think grey/silver would complement everything else?

Meant to post this here , but thanks! I've also never thought about ivory being that I'm not wearing a white dress.

Aw, that's a bummer. I don't see why it wouldn't. I grey & silver look nice with navy.

Every wedding I’ve seen the families don’t match the theme unless they’re in the bridal party. It makes sense to want them to wear colors that won’t clash, but I don’t think they need to “match.” It’s not like your parents will be in the same photos as the bridal party

I understand. The main reason why I asked about colors complementing is because our bridal party is majority family. My sisters are MOH, all his groomsmen are his brothers. All children flower girl , ring bearer are our nieces and nephews of those who are in the bridal party.

Ohh that makes more sense then, sorry I read fast and missed that part!

In that case I’d just give them your color scheme and maybe just have them wear anything as long as it’s in that color scheme ?

It's okay! And that's what I was thinking but our colors are gold , and navy accented with crimson red (flowers). Not sure what they'd look like in red haha but was thinking maybe of a darker red , a grey/silver or something like mauve/blush since it's soft and bright. Our wedding season is summer. I'm probably making this more complicated than it should be , but harder to see what complements when having a gold dress.

My mom originally wanted to wear a dress similar to the color of my dress , but I think it would clash too much and I wouldn't stand out so when she asks me what color I feel like I have to give a color just so she doesn't pick that particular dress if I said "whatever you want"

I think giving them the color palette and choice of 3 colors works. Usually your mom picks first and then his mom so they don't "match." But mom's sometimes go rogue and pick just weird things. And somehow someone thought that meant Barney purple. lol!

I would have his mom either in gold to go with the guys. Or red or navy to contrast them. Imagine a picture of just his side and just yours. That probably will help the most.

My mom actually wants red so her dress comes in this week! His mom picked this greyish blue. I didn't want any extra blue but she really likes the blue so I'm not going to worry about it!
