Parents Album

Veronica, on August 21, 2019 at 9:02 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15
My husband and I aren't not making our wedding album until our one year anniversary. We thought it would be something nice we could create together for our one year anniversary. However, I am thinking it might be nice to create parents albums for my parents and his mother. His parents are divorced and his dad isn't really into photos or anything like that so we wouldn't give him one. I am thinking we would make the one for his mom more focused on his family and the one for my parents more focused on my family. We would include photos of us as a couple and with our bridal party in both. Based on my research, a parents album is supposed to be a replica of our wedding album, but since we haven't made one yet that wouldn't be the case with ours. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with creating ones that a different from our wedding album. Has anyone created parents albums that are different from their wedding album? If so, any advice on what to include in each album?

What you’re describing is exactly what we’re doing, minus the waiting a year part. I’ve never heard that they need to be identical and I have no idea why my mom would want an album filled half way with photos of my FW’s family.

Awesome! Do you plan on including getting ready photos in yours?

I’ll probably include a photo of my mom zipping me into my dress in hers. I’m not sure there will be many getting ready photos of my FW, but if there’s a good one, we will include it in her mom’s album.

We're doing the exact same thing for our parents.

PS Shutterfly is having a HUGE sale on photobooks!

Are you do photo books or photo albums? I have read some of the differences and I'm not sure what I want to do. I'm definitely thinking for ours we will do a photo album, but I'm undecided about for our parents.

We're doing a bound book with pictures and background designs for ourselves as well. I have a cute library at home and I can't wait to include that in my collection. Smiley laugh

I’ve never heard of a parents album being a replica of your wedding album . None of this stuff is necessary anyway so you can really do WHATEVER you want. We made albums for our parents as holiday gifts , before making one for ourselves (we have yet to do this but after the ones for the parents, we decided we wanted to make one that is basically the same just an extended version, with shower pics, wedding weekend pics, and maybe honeymoon pics).

I set out to make 2 versions, one for my family highlighting that side and one for his, highlighting their side. But after pouring over the first halves keeping them nice and balanced, I gave up on my over ambitious dream haha, and made them both exactly the same. I was really happy with the result as it really highlights the families coming together. ...and, ya know, saved me days of effort, haha— don’t under appreciate how much work it can be! Smiley winking

I guess I’ll go on to say- we only did immediate family portraits (not extended). I did guest photos at the end, but made a big collage spread— so one page was my side, one was his.
i did a photo book. I did it as a story arc (the scene before the ceremony— the set up, guests arriving, etc; then a collage page of girls getting ready, then a collage page of guys getting ready, and so on. So, no pile of one sided pics, a balance of side to side as the day went on . Hah I had a lot of fun with it!

Do you recall what size photo book you ordered and how many spreads? That's another thing I have to figure out.

I made totally different albums for us, my parents, my grandma, and my inlaws. No big deal!

I waited until black friday/christmas time to get a good deal from shutterfly for the the family's albums and then upgraded ours slightly.

I'm considering adding photos from our engagement session and honeymoon in our parents album, but I would just make our album focused on our wedding. Not 100% sure yet though.

Definitely! I've ordered books from them multiple times and am always happy. I will say, that I upgraded to the thicker cardboard type pages for our personal wedding album and I think the thicker material doesn't allow the picture to be quite as sharp/detailed as the regular pages. Not a huge deal, just something I wasn't expecting. I would highly recommend the lay-flat pages though!
