Parent presents

Cristina, on May 10, 2023 at 10:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hello!
What is everyone doing for parent presents?
We are in a dilemma- both moms are super picky. My father doesn’t want anything. His father isn’t really in our life but is helping a bit for the wedding.FH doesn’t want to get for my FIL but I’m not letting that happen. Any ideas? I googled and saw very personal things. Looking for something less personal. Or if you’ve done something adjacent to their hobbies I’d love to know!

I had a similar dilemma for our parent/family gifts (both moms are picky and no one really needs anything). And like you, I googled ideas extensively and found mostly personalized knick-knacks which I definitely knew I did not want to do.

So we ended up giving each set of parents a personalized picture frame with one of our engagement photos. For the moms (and my grandmother because she helped a lot too), we got tickets to an off-Broadway show and will take them all to dinner before the show. They all enjoy the theater but don't get to go often and I know for a fact that they will appreciate spending the time with us and the experience over a random tangible gift.

My FIL is deceased and my dad really doesn't want anything, so we just got him a Hawaiian shirt that coordinated with our wedding colors (it's a long story but the short version is that he has created a tradition where he changes into a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and sandals for the reception at all family weddings).

My brother is officiating so I wanted to include him in the family gifts too. He makes much more than all of us so he has everything he could want, but he is quite the foodie and has recently been enjoying experimenting with more cooking/baking. So we got him a fairly extensive selection of infused oils and vinegars, flavored salts, compound butters, flavored nut butters, and flavored creamed honeys. These are all local artisan products so I think he will really appreciate them.

Good luck gift hunting for your family!

My parents are very easy going! I'm thinking about buying them a very nice bottle of wine with a personalized bag for them to keep. And maybe my dad a nice watch or hat.

We picked some nice jewelry for the moms, I found beautiful unique necklaces with birthstones for each mom on Ross-Simons. Dads are receiving watches with an engraved message on the back & leather bags from Etsy with their initials (a bigger brown duffel for FIL & a sleek navy blue messenger satchel for my dad).
