Parent Gifts

Andrea, on July 26, 2020 at 7:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
What is the gift giving etiquette for parents? Does every parent get a gift (mother of bride, mother of groom, father of bride father of groom?) Who is responsible for which gifts??

You and your partner can just get a joint gift to each parent. We got our moms the same thing and the dads the same thing.

My fiance and I are planning on giving each of our parents a gift. Our moms will likely get the same thing as each other, and our dads will likely get the same thing as each other.

This is awesome! I was just talking to my fiancé about this exact thing! I’m just putting the finishing touches on my bridesmaids bags & asked him if he had any ideas on what to get our parents. He looked at me like I had a 2nd head! I was thinking of a nice picture frame for both.

Etsy has a TON of things to choose from! Just put wedding present to parents in the search grid.

We are planning on getting both moms trinket/ring dishes that say ‘Mother of the Bride/Groom’ with our wedding date. And we are planning on getting both dads ties to match our wedding colors & can be shed after with patches on the inside that have a short message. Both sets of parents are also getting photo albums/framed photos after the wedding.

We got each of our parents a gift. He picked out the gifts for his parents and I picked out the gifts for mine.

Except for giving photos to parents after the wedding, it is not a traditional thing for the couple to give gifts to parents at wedding time. You can do what you want. The only necessary/ traditional gifts are one personal gift ( not same for everyone and not worn for the wedding) for each member of the wedding party, given shortly before or after the wedding. All the others, proposal gifts, getting ready things, gifts to party givers and guests, and parent gifts have been added by reality TV, internet things, and wedding industry promotion. We give our parents gifts on each of their birthdays, at our winter religious holidays,on their anniversary, and on Mother's or Father's Day, 4 times a year each. We did not give them another on our wedding day.

We got each of the moms a fun mug that reflects their personality and we got all the dads a pair of fun socks to wear on the wedding day. We wanted to keep it sweet and simple and not break the bank
