Parent Gifts

Ms. Lin, on August 25, 2020 at 4:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

We are paying for 90% of the wedding ourselves but my parents paid for my bridal shower and our alcohol and his parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner.

Should we still give them "thank you" gifts at the rehearsal dinner? If so, does anyone have a suggestion on what we should give?

Also, should we gift my uncle who is the officiant?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely a thank you gift would be great!

i think you can also do a gift for your uncle.

gift cards to their favorite stores or restaurants would be nice

I think it would be a good idea if it works in your budget. If not every parent and most humans love a good nice hand written card.

Gifts with a hand written note, yes. They can be small like: a bottle of their favorite wine, a personalized frame that you later print a photo of you plus the parents, an embroidered insert on the guys' ties, a handkerchief. Itndoesnt have to be elaborate but the message in the card is the real meat of the gift.

It's also noteworthy, don't give them something just to give them something. It shouldn't be junk and it should have some meaning behind it. A gift card to their favorite spot, not just the local Applebee's. A nights stay at the B&B they've been wanting to try. A phrase you've always said on the frame.
Good luck! Etsy is full of custom options!

I would give the uncle officiant around $200 and the parents whatever I could afford at the time ($50 to $100).

Etsy has a lot of cute gifts for parents. Hair clips, suit hangers, handkerchiefs, etc. A number of my friends considered wedding albums the gift to their parents. If you’re having bridal portraits taken and displayed at the reception, you could also gift them that framed photo.

If you do go gift cards, at least enough to cover a meal for two people. So depends on the restaurant. I just think it would be a bit of a let down if the gift card only covered like half of the meal, that’s like getting one sock! 😂
