Parent gifts

Sarah, on May 2, 2022 at 3:06 PM Posted in Planning 11 9
Is anyone doing gifts for parents/step-parents for the wedding day? If so, any ideas? We have 6 people total if we are doing step-parents so I wanted to see if this is the norm.

Parent gifts are typically a thank you for financial contributions to the wedding. We gave an IOU for pictures and created a nice picture collage and photo book for them once we got photos back. But some people will do jewelry, a tie clip, etc. We just knew our parents and the likelihood they would actually use any of those physical gifts.

Ours are contributing significant financial assistance so we are definitely buying them gifts. I’m thinking of doing something with our wedding photos once they are ready as both of our parents are big on memories and pictures. It’s something that will last forever. With that, you could probably cut down the number of gifts and get something for each pair of parents instead of each individual parent. Your photographer snaps a really emotional or intimate photo of you and your parents? Turn it into a print or frame with a quote.

We are not giving them anything since we, their daughter or son, are their gifts and they're gaining a new daughter or a new son!! LOL.

On a serious note: you and your groom-to-be know they DO and DON'T linee, so go from there. For instance, If the moms and step-mom like flowers, something as simple as a bouquet or even ONE flower will make them happy, you don't have to buy a piece of jewelry or an I phone... As for the dads and step-dad why not paying for their tie or bowtie? Or their cufflinks if they want?

There’s going to be 6 parents on our top table along with the MOH & best man… we initially wanted to do gifts but it would be awkward to do 3/4 of the top table and not just all… then all of them, seems excessive. So what we’ve decided on is the not do the whole gift giving on the day.

The night before. I’m giving my Mum & Maid of Honour a little gift as a thank you as they have been the most helpful out of everyone involved. My partner the same for his Best Man. Then on our return from honeymoon, we are going to get joint gifts for parents to say thank you for their contribution (a meal out voucher or something.).

It is the norm in our world. I bought my Dad a Movado watch and my Mom a diamond right hand ring to wear in our wedding day. We gift the parents as a sign of respect.

I was planning to give my bridesmaids their gifts while we're getting ready, so I'll probably get my mom and FMIL something as well since they'll both be there. What any of those gifts will be is still TBD.

I am doing gifts for my in-laws and my fiancé is doing gifts for my parents. We decided to get them each a romantic dinner date kit. Gift card for their favorite restaurant, a bottle of wine, and tickets to a movie.
