Paper/plastic plates or glass????

Alicia, on May 26, 2016 at 3:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So we are having a backyard wedding reception with about 50 of our closest family and friends! The food is gonna be buffet style kind of barbecue catered! My question is plates! My mother has glass plates that aren't very formal that we can use, but idk if I just want to buy some fancy paper plates? The glass plates would have to be washed vs the paper one that could easily be thrown away! What do you guys think? Are glass plates to much for a backyard barbecue reception? I also don't wanna worry about broken glass! Reception is going to be can/ bottle beer, wine, tea, water bottles, in plastic cups! My fiancé and I are both simple non-fancy people! Paper/plastic plates vs glass plates?

They make really nice, faux china-looking disposable plates. They're sturdier than your standard paper/Styrofoam/plastic. I imagine they're also more expensive possibly. I think they sell it at places like Costco or Sam's Club along with similar cutlery.

I'd also say to go with the nice plates from Costco. That's what we are doing for the same type of wedding Smiley smile

I did a nice heavy duty plastic plate from Sams Club for our casual reception. Also bought the silverware that looks real, but is plastic. Really no one notices or remembers the plates lol.

I vote on really nice disposables. This is the one time you can get away with it. Besides, who'd be stuck washing glass???

Do nice disposals for plates and glassware. Someone is bound to drop a plate or glass and you don't want to worry about cleaning up glass!

For some reason I really love the clear plastic plates. They also make silver flatware too.
