Paper lanterns on sticks for Send Off

Suzanne, on October 13, 2021 at 8:02 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 3
I am wanting to make these for my daughter’s wedding but can’t find anywhere how to do it. Any thoughts? We are not allowed to use releasable lanterns.

Hi Suzanne! I'd do some searching online and on YouTube for "DIY Paper Lanterns" - then you can string them up or find some type of stick to attach them to!!

I'd make a test lantern so you can start trying out a few different methods!

I’m making DIY bobo balloons wrapped in fairy lights. I’d personally just buy the paper lanterns online and use LED lights to light them up. Then, I’d use a wooden dowel and attach some eye hooks on them. Tie a string on the lantern and thread and tie it through the eye hook that’s on the dowel. Tie at the desired length. I’m sure there are other ways, but that’s one I would try. Here’s kind of an example of some ribbon wands where they’ve attached a eye hook on a wooden dowel to kind of give you an idea of what the dowel/eye hook contraption looks like. https://thebudgetsavvybride.com/ribbon-wand-diy/
If the dowels are too short for your paper lanterns, try looking into walking sticks, PVC pipes, or maybe gluing 2-3 together. Wood glue will give you the strongest joint bond for unfinished wood. They also have different thickness. If you do plan on gluing several together, I’d go with the thicker ones. The dowel sticks will be your cheapest option though! Good luck! I love putting stuff together like that haha. It does take a bit of trial and error Smiley smile
