Paper invitation but online Rsvp?

Nina, on January 19, 2019 at 12:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 11
We plan to send out paper invites in the mail but my fiance wants to have a line that asks guests to RSVP through our website. Is this normal? Tacky? He got the idea from 2 weddings we went to recently where we just RSVPd online. My concern is that older guests might not understand or know how to? Then we have to track them down anyway

That’s what we did and we had no issues. The lady that owns the stationary store that did our invites said in her experience about 50% of people do that nowadays.

Just curious, thanks. My parents and his parents are more old fashioned and insist that people need to mail back their response. I will try to convince them it will save on paper, stamps, etc.

As I guest I think it's easier. I recently got an invite in the mail and I RSVPed the same day because I could do it on my phone. A few months ago I had one where I had to send a card and it sat on my table for weeks before I remembered to take it to the mailbox!

I think no matter what method you do you’ll have to follow up with people! For us it was easier to do on our website because we needed people to rsvp for the welcome party, wedding, make a meal choice, and let us know where they were staying. I was able to export all those answers into a spreadsheet and send to my wedding planner.

Either way, you’re going to be tracking people down. I know a lot of people today prefer the online RSVP because they can do that from the comfort of their home. Not everyone can leave a letter in their mailbox for USPS to pick up and may have to make a trip to the post office to send off the RSVP. I am a HUGE fan of paper invites with online RSVPS. I love getting mail and I think it’s really special this day, where everything is online, in age to get a physical invite.

Now, here’s where I’m a hypocrite. I’m using paper RSVPs. I’m okay if they just want to shoot me a message to tell me they’re coming. But, we’re having an 80s wedding and there wasn’t personal internet services in the 80s. Therefore, all wedding invites & RSVPs were physical.

But, long story short. I think online RSVPs are fine. Most people appreciate them. You might have to chase the older folks, but don’t underestimate them. They are probably the most punctual with things like this. Again, either way you’re going to be chasing someone, that’s a guarantee. So just do what works best for the two of you.

I am doing all online/ text because I wanted it to be the easiest for our guests. I just put the invites in the mail Thursday at noon, and as of this morning we already have someone who has responded! Fingers crossed they all are this easy, but inside I know it won’t be.

We did this same thing, and some of my coworkers mentioned they aren’t technologically advanced so i printed out my own little RSVP cards i made and stuck them in the envelopes too.

That's what we did! I even purchased a URL so that our website could be easily found!

We are doing online RSVPS too but also said that people could call us instead (I know FH grandparents might find it difficult to navigate an online RSVP
