Photos attached above. Keep in mind that some minor finishing details need to be made such as finishing the edges and what not.

Ok so. My wedding is August 8th (praying that all will still be good). Back in December I decided I wanted to custom design my dress with an Etsy designer to save money and get exactly what I want. I chose a shop that has thousands of incredible reviews. It’s been an overall good experience but because of my timing, with Chinese New Year and then coronavirus stuff, it’s been massively delayed.
I just now finally got final approval photos from my girl after asking her to change something on the back... and I’m panicking a little... okay a lot. It’s overall the look I want but I don’t love that the bottom skirt has a straight line at the top where it connects to the bodice... I wanted that to be a scoop shape or V shape in line with the back. I also don’t like that you can see the distinction between the top and bottom. But at this point I just want my dress IN MY HANDS and shipped off so I can try it on and make a decision if that’s needed... they already completely adjusted the back so I’d rather not ask for more and delay it even more. Basically I’m panicking and regretting doing this and wishing I just freaking went to a store and am terrified that I won’t love love love it when I get it in person and won’t know what to do!
HELP! Give me your opinions on the dress + what you think a seamstress could realistically alter if needed + maybe what my backup plan should be? Am I being totally crazy and picky?? 🤪🤪🤪🤪

I love it! The distinction between the detailing and the under layer is gorgeous! I think you’ll feel better when it arrives and you have it in your hands.

My honest opinion, as asked: To me the dress looks elegant and pretty. If anything, I would ask to make the front (décolleté) narrower, so my breast won’t play peekaboo when I duck down. Also, we have the same eyes, I prefer to have a V transition between the top and bottom part of the dress. That’s why I rejected the wedding dresses I tried with a horizontal line on the waist. It made me look shorter. You should ask if she still have time for your request.

The dress is beautiful. You just have to wait and try it on. Did you try this style on before you designed it so that you had some idea how it would look on you? I think that would help you more envision it.

I actually think its gorgeous. another thing is if you want to consider buying or adding a belt it would bring everything together and hide the parts you don't like

Yes totally, I’m wanting that V transition. My problem is that I thought I made that change clear the last time I sent over some requests but it didn’t get done and i know if I ask now it will take another 2-3 weeks to make the change and then add on shipping which is stressing me about. So I guess I’m wondering if that’s doable by a seamstress... I kinda would rather just know I HAVE IT and that the rest is good and have a local seamstress do some adjustments 🤨

I think while she is still working on it, she should do it and have it shipped with the fastest delivery method. Rather than dealing another seamstress?

I honestly think it is amazing. Personally, I would either accept it as is and stop nitpicking every single minor detail or I would continue to work with this individual to get it how you like and be willing to pay a rush fee if needed to get the work done and get it to me. I would absolutely not risk taking it to another seamstress - you may run out of time at that point, or if the second person does shoddy work you won't be able to fix it, and changing how the bodice connects to the skirt may require extra fabric that I'm not sure a new seamstress would have vs the original designer. I also suspect the transition line between bodice and skirt will be less noticeable when worn as you will naturally have some movement, shadows, and wrinkles of the fabric. Do you feel the seamstress understands what you are asking? I had to re-read your description and the comments 3x before I understood what sort of V-line you were talking about.

If you had gone to a store and tried on dresses its unlikely you would have found the perfect one - custom designing a dress, even if slightly different than you imagined, was probably your best shot. This dress looks just gorgeous!

I think the dress is lovely. For what it's worth, the seam doesn't stand out to me, so if you're concerned about if it's something others will notice I don't think it'll seem out of place to anyone. But I understand the preference. If you want to change it, I'd do it with the person making the dress. That's a pretty major modification, and seems risky (and costly) to bring it to a new seamstress to do. I think we tend to get so hung up on small details that sometimes we don't "see the forest for the trees". It's a lovely dress and I'm sure you will look stunning!

Thank you for all the reassurance and advice, ladies! I truly appreciate it, it really helped me in my panic moment haha. So I went ahead and asked her to change it and sent a very clear explanation with photoshop haha, but she just replied and said she can’t do that change since the back doesn’t have lining Smiley sad so I guess my only option now is to just have it sent and who knows, maybe it won’t bother me when on. And if it does I guess I can just SEE if a seamstress is able to do anything. 🤪 trying to stay positive!

I think it's gorgeous. I actually like the line that separates the top and bottom (I think that's what you mean?) because it's super slimming for the waist and draws attention to the narrow point on a woman's figure. I have a dress similar in shape and I regret not getting one with the line near my waist. I would just have it sent to you!!!
