Panic!

Katy, on March 16, 2020 at 2:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
I’m in a state of panic, AZ governor just said no gatherings larger than 50! My wedding on 4/4/20 and I have 150 people coming. I don’t know if I should to to move it or downsize to 50. I’m so distressed. It’s going to get too hot in AZ soon to have an outside wedding. I hate to postpone it to October. Any tight or suggestions?

The truth of the matter, and this is going to be a bit harsh, is that public health and safety is paramount over anyone's wedding. In fact, I'm a professional in the wedding industry, and I've just advised all my brides and grooms to cancel or postpone their March and April weddings. We're about 10-14 days behind Italy when it comes to the virus and their initial casual feelings about the virus have now lead to a country-wide lockdown and hundreds of deaths. Contact between people (even those feeling totally fine) can spread the virus on to people who are at risk (immunocompromised in some way) super quickly, and in order to give medical professionals an opportunity to get a handle on things, staying home and not going to any non-essential appointments or outings is pertinent.

Sorry about how things have turned out for you individually here--it's definitely been frustrating for brides and grooms getting married anytime soon. Unfortunately, I'd strongly suggest postponing.

    3/28 bride here.
Spent the day in Plan B mode.
Tomorrow we start rescheduling. As long as the courthouse is open, we are getting our marriage license Tuesday. We have cut our list down to 50 people. We are getting married on our wedding date. We will be pushing back our reception. We will be sending out uninvites.

I’m also in Arizona and so upset over this. We are literally getting married next weekend on 3/21. But based on the decisions has pretty much forced us to reduce our list to 50! We will find out tomorrow for sure what the venue is gonna do but sounds like as of right we are still full steam ahead! Just sucks as most of my guest already have rooms or plane tickets. Do to this we had decided to postpone our honeymoon until September.

That’s what we are thinking. 4/26/2020 wedding, and as long as I can get our license, I think we’ll down size to 50 and let everyone know by mail we’re having to roll with the punches and downsize.

I'm so sorry, but I would postpone. In many states, the CDC is recommending no gatherings of more than 25 people. The 50 in your state right now could drop down to 25 in a few days. I would try to move it if possible and see if your vendors can offer you a different date

I would say at this point you are going to have to postpone ...for a later date

I think the only responsible thing to do is to postpone. Sure, you May only have 50 people. Sure, they may be intelligent enough to understand the risks to themselves. But what the elderly lady in the store where they stop to buy a card? The catering server who can’t afford to stay home? And everyone else they may come into indirect contact with? It’s too risky at this point. And frankly, selfish to think your wedding is more important than the extended circle of people your 50 guests could come in to contact with. It only takes one person at the wedding to be a carrier to spread the virus pretty far. Look, I get it. If someone told me this close to my wedding I would have had a complete & utter meltdown. But it isn’t worth the risk to so many people.
