Palatable and Affordable Wine?

Lacy, on October 23, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

I had recently posted about bar options and whether we should choose to do a beer/wine only with upgraded selections or do a full liquor bar and keep the standard beer and wine selections. After discussing with my FMIL, we have decided to do a combination of the two. We are going to do a full liquor bar, keep the standard beer selections and do a slight upgrade on the wine selection. Can anyone suggest a a reasonably priced brand of wine that they have served with success at their wedding? Included in our package is the Barefoot or Cupcake brand, but I, personally, do not find those brands tolerable, and I don't want to serve that to my guests. However, the brands that I drink at home are a little too pricey to consider serving at an open bar. I just need suggestions that are both palatable and affordable. Thanks!

Don Miguel Gascón Malbec (~$10.99) is excellent and affordable -- it's what we served as the red wine at our wedding and it was well received. For white wine, we went with Martín Códax Albariño Rías Baixas ($13.99), which was also popular with our guests. We bought our wine wholesale so the liquor store gave us a discount plus they had a policy of buying back unused wine.

What's reasonable to you? We love drinking 14 hands cab (about $14.00 in-store, but found online for $8-10/bottle) and they have other selections of whites and reds. Kendall Jackson is also another popular option for a reasonable price in my opinion.

I love Meiomi. It's a pinot noir. It's a step above the two that you listed. I'm not a huge white wine person so I don't have any recommendations in that department.

Great suggestions, ladies. Thank you. When drinking for just myself I tend to spend $18 to $25 per bottle. However, I'd like to keep it to less than $12 per bottle at the wedding. I have to purchase through my venue. It's a per head price but they base it off of liquor selections.

Our banquet hall had a byob policy, we bought and delivered the cases of alcohol and they would put it on the table and serve it. We went to Costco and picked up a few of the less expensive options to taste test and chose that way. Our Chardonnay was Daou ($14) and our red wine was Cantine Colosi Nero D'avola ($11).

We bought a case and a half of 19 Crimes Shiraz and it was a big hit. I picked it up at Wine Depot for about $8 a bottle.

Apothic red blend! I’m a big fan of the Caymus Conundrum red blend and I find the Apothic red blend to be very similar for 1/3 of the price. The 19 Crimes red blend is also fantastic. I’m not a white wine drinker so I can’t help much with that 😁
