Paging Celia - writing vows

Kati, on August 29, 2017 at 2:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

We are writing our own vows this week. I remember Celia saying something like "2 lines this, 2 lines that, 2 lines this, and done" but I cannot remember what her formula was nor can I find it. Anyone have a general structure we can use to keep our vows short and somewhat consistent to one another's? We aren't planning on sharing them with one another ahead of time. Thanks!!!

    Posting mostly to bump in hopes she sees this, but I think it is 4 line about what/things you love about them and 4 lines about what you promise to do to keep your union strong.

    I literally fall asleep at night thinking of all the things I want to say to him. It's WAY to much for the ceremony; so the card I give to him prior to will be quite full Smiley smile

    Yeah I've seen 4 on what you love about them, 4 on promises. Someone else suggested 1. How you felt when you first met 2. What your love has grown into 4. Vows

    I know I've heard 4 lines about what you love about your SO, 4 lines about what you vow to do to make the marriage work.

    That's how we wrote our vows.

    Howdy....

    I tell people to do four lines about what you love about each other, four lines of what you promise to do to make it work.

    Keep it short, keep it lighthearted, keep it personal and don't retell your story. Your guests know the end is near; they can hear champagne corks popping.

    It doesn't need to be Shakespeare; it should sound like you wrote it. Don't write anything you can't imagine saying in public without crying. If you want to say more, put it in a letter.

    Don't memorize it; write it on something presentable. If you're nervous, consider not using a mic (better for pix). They really are vows to each other, not to the near world.

    There is a 'mad lib' vow generator on my pinterest vow and reading page;

    Good luck!

    My FH has lots of anxiety about open ended things, he needs a right and wrong way to do something. I just sent him a screenshot of your post @Celia and he says he already feels better. Thank you!!

    Great!

    I have one couple coming up who will literally be whispering their vows to each other. I have done this before, and it is so moving. They will move in very, very close to each other, the BM and the MOH will be right next to them as witnesses, and I will step out of the photo.

    I love it.
