Packing tips for Ireland

Allie, on June 26, 2019 at 5:34 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

FH and I recently decided to bump up our delayed honeymoon and go right after our wedding on September 1st to Ireland! He laughed at me for saying I'm shopping for a new raincoat/windbreaker and rain boots haha. I know it won't be super cold then but I'm cold-natured so I'm already planning on what to pack to be comfortable. I'm thinking about purchasing some duck boots and a more fashionable rain/trenchcoat. What else would ya'll recommend packing for a trip to Ireland?

The weather can be unpredictable, so pack lots of layers. I would also recommend some sturdy shoes if you plan on going to castles or anything like that.

I definitely echo the lots of layers idea. Definitely get a scarf/wrap (I have the Vinyasa scarf from lululemon from like, 10 years ago, and it's my favorite thing for travel because it's so versatile.) I wouldn't recommend clunky rainboots like Hunters. They're too uncomfortable for walking days. I'd go for a pair of waterproof booties. My go-to are Blondos. They're super chic and go with everything.

I just got back from a trip to Ireland. PACK WARM RAIN GEAR. ... not “cute” outfits and hope it’s warm. I mean pack for the next season. We went in June and it felt like October in Pennsylvania. Also you’ll probably do a lot of walking so make sure those duck boots or rain boots are worn in before you go or your tootsies are gonna be hurting. I highly recommend scarfs and hats too! Also a backpack. I got a cute purse backpack and it was a life saver between stuffing an umbrella and a light raincoat and my wallet it made for running around the city so easy.

I spent a summer in Ireland in college for a study abroad and I can second what everyone else is saying. LAYERS! They will be your best friend. Definitely pack warm stuff and rain gear. I wore like a shirt and cardigan every day and that was July. But it's so worth it. Have the best time!

I lived in Ireland for a a summer and girl it IS cold sometimes, especially if you’re cold natured! I was there in 2007 and they were having a “record breaking heatwave” and it was literally 85 degrees Fahrenheit at the highest. It rains basically every single day at some point. Don’t get me wrong it’s 100% gorgeous, just wet. So comfy rain boots, layers, and a rain jacket are the way to go!

Thank you! Those are great tips. I live in Mississippi, where I don't have to even think about pulling out a coat or hat until November so this will be interesting!
