PA system for backyard ceremony??

suzanne, on June 6, 2011 at 12:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

We are having a back yard wedding. What can we use/rent for a PA system for our ceremony? (we aren't having a DJ or anything like that)

You can rent it, but please make sure you have someone there who knows how to work audio equipment! And how would you play things? You can't just hook most systems up to your computer. And even if you could- who would run the computer?

Check with local music shops. They often have them to rent. But the costs are often just as a high as an inexpensive DJ. I'd really weigh the costs between renting the equipment and hiring someone who will provide it, work it and has some experience with all the other details.

I found some companies that have simple speaker/mic systems for around $100. Smiley smile

You could probably buy a Karaoke machine for that price.

We have used a karoke machine for a sound system before. Does someone have one you could borrow?

Ya I thought about that (karoke) I will ask our friend who I know has one. I want to be able to either play CD's or our iPod from it though. I changed my mind...we do need it for the ceremony music. It's going to be a super small 40-50 guest wedding. I'm rambling....this planning makes me nervous! lolol

Some Dj's rent out their equipment, in addition to (or instead of) doing the whole enchilada. Rental Services (like the places you get your tables and linens) sometimes have rentals as well. And finally, look for a local production house (under music production) in your town or nearby. As someone else stated... often times the cost of a rented PA is equivalent to a budget/inexperienced DJ.

heck... you could even hire a cheap Dj and tell him to ONLY play what you want, when you want.... and use him as a PA.
