Own Videographer?

Jess, on December 6, 2021 at 11:34 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

I've been going back and forth a lot on if I want a videographer. My FH doesn't want one, he says pictures are all the same, and I don't agree.

However, I really only want the ceremony! I don't care about all the fancy stuff they do, and I know people will have their phones out for the reception so I just want to be able to look back on the ceremony years from now (and since they say your day goes by so fast)

Has anyone recorded their ceremony on their own? What did you do? Or is it worth just hiring someone to do the video for me?

I had a videographer but i also had a friend who recorded it on her own and i liked her clips so much i actually ended up using some of it in the video anyway.

i think if you have a nice camera or can get your hands on a nice camera and someone at the ceremony is willing to record it or you have a tripod, i don't see why not!

I didn't have a videographer. I don't regret it one bit Smiley smile There were moments that were captured by family and friends and I'm so glad they got those moments. Smiley heart My heart was so set on getting one at first, but because of our budget we just didn't get one.

I wanted to have an unplugged ceremony (I think that's what you call it lol) where my husband and I requested that our guests do not have their phones out during the ceremony. That way everyone can be present in the moment. Instead we just used my friend's go pro camera that was placed in the front to record it and it was perfect! So, you can definitely do what I did.

Again a lot of people recorded a lot of moments for us which was really nice. And again they all turned out great!

I completely agree with you that photos are not the same as video! If you only want video of the ceremony, and you don’t mind not having a professional grade video, then I think just setting up an iPad on a tripod would suffice. Or, if you are wanting a good quality video but not wanting to pay the hefty price of a videographer, there is also the option of using a service like https://www.wedit.com/book-now/

So, I felt exactly the same as your fiance about videography. I ESPECIALLY didn't want to have to do more than one take where we pretend to walk across a field laughing with our bridal party or whatever. We just wanted what happened on the day to be recorded in a snippet or two, if at all.

I never really liked videos of myself and thought it would be awkward to watch me moving around on the day. But, my sister had a videographer and a livestream of her wedding, and to be honest I loved how much more graceful I was than I expected. I loved the sweet moments that the photographer missed, like when I hugged my brother in law after the ceremony, or when I gave my sister her engagement ring back (I'd been wearing it for her until after the ring exchange). It was very sweet and it changed my mind.

We are not having a full-on videographer, but we are having a live stream of the ceremony with a stationary camera. The guy brings all the gear, sets it all up, does the website stuff, and we just give our guests who can't attend in person a link. It wasn't super expensive and was exactly what my fiance and I wanted - some video, but not too fancy or over-produced.

And, I think one day, when my parents are no longer with us, it will be nice to watch my dad walk me down the aisle, or my mum sign the registry or whatever.

Hire someone!! We actually have a family friend as our Videographer, she took audio video in HS with me! She’s not a professional but I didn’t want anything crazy fancy, so maybe you could do that?

Hire a professional! Our wedding videos are my favorite part of our day and the money for a videographer was SO worth it!

I videoed my best friends wedding with my GoPro. I edited it and it was great. I even had some video on my phone and added that to the finished version. I totally agree that a video makes a difference. Videographers can just shoot the ceremony and leave but I think DIY would be just as good esp since ceremonies don’t last that long anyway

We used LoveCast to livestream our ceremony for folks who couldn’t come due to COVID, and it saves your recording!

We also hired a videographer and I will say it’s my favorite thing ever. I look back and see all the little moments I missed. So special! We hired a Film and Media Studies college student to do it so the price point wasn’t bad at all.
