Overwhelmed!

Isabella, on October 13, 2019 at 10:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I just started the planning process and I have no idea where to start! I’ve started looking at venues and some come with catering options. We are planning a wedding and also building a home so we are trying to keep on budget. Question is which is best catering separate or bundling them?

I think it depends on the venue. Some make you choose from their caterers which can be more expensive. But some also provide dishware, glass ware, flat ware and linens which can save you in other areas.

It truly depends, honestly. My venue provides catering and that was simple and easy for us. They take care of set-up, breakdown and trash etc. That’s one less vendor to pay and I don’t have to worry about anything. Depending on your specific venue you may have the luxury to have outside catering. But, it’s about what they offer and extra costs too. Also, some venues have stipulations such as license and insurance. But, if you’re looking at a venue that provides you the luxury of bringing your own caterer and not doesn’t provide there on... it’s not bad. However, again, it’s about the package. Who will set up? Who will break down? What comes with that specific caterer? What about linens, glassware etc. ?

Honestly, it also depends on where you live as well. My FH and I looked at places more in the urban area where we live and they often had X amount of caters to choose from or had their own. Our reception is being held at a brewery that’s more outside of the city.
My recommendation is to research what the reception locations & food costs would be in a wide range of price points and then pick the location that works best for you all. Don’t be afraid to look at unconventional locations like museums or newly opened winery’s or country clubs and the like. They may have incentives for having your reception there. And if you happen to find a caterer who you really like, some venues will work with you to have the caterer even if they don’t advertise it.

I've personally found separate ones cheaper but I guess depends on how good of a deal the venue has
