Overwhelmed - Can't Make Another Decision

LoveLoveLove, on May 26, 2017 at 10:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

I can't seem to motivate myself to make another (not a single one) decision about our wedding. I'm super excited about marrying my Superman but I can't bring myself to call another vendor, shop for another item (decoration or attire), or search another Pinterest pic. NOTHING! We had a quick getaway a couple of weekends ago to destress, but that hasn't helped.

Has anyone else been through this? What did you do to get out of it?

My mother has been driving me crazy. I'm a teacher and I told her I'm not doing anything until after the school year. Way too stressed. Totally feel where you're coming from!

Yes! I totally went into a planning lull from november - january

Girl, as long as you have your vendors - take a break for a week or two!

Take a week or two off - complete wedding shut down. No pinterest, ignore wedding emails, no wedding talk, etc.

Treat yourself - do something that is just for YOU. Whether it is getting your nails done, taking a long walk on the beach or drinking wine and watching netflix. Do something that will improve your mental health.

When you are ready to get back to it ... make yourself a schedule and tackle one thing at a time.

How far along are you in planning? Once I found the venue, photographer, and DJ, I could finally relax and have fun planning. Does your SO help? It can be so overwhelming at times that I enlisted the help of my bridal party, mom, and some other girlfriends by making a secret group on FB. They've all be such a blessing. And I love getting advice from ladies here on WW! I have a short engagement so not much time to plan. I'm a checklist person so each time I get to mark something off of my list it's a big relief Smiley smile.

I went through that last month! And I HAD to make a decision on my hair and makeup stylist. I've been procrastinating SO BAD LOL. Try taking a step back and focusing on things in your life right now. Breathe!!

I looked at your wedding date and was like, yeah, that's right on time. Take a few weeks off. It's a lull. You'll be fine with a break.

Sometimes you need to schedule a break. Not do anything and just enjoy life. So long as you have a timeline/schedule to get everything done, don't stress out too much.

OHOHO absolutely, yes, I know exactly what you're saying. I've been agonizing over all the little details FH and I still have to smooth out. It's shittastic sometimes... I just can't get myself to pull the trigger on any hair accessories. Ugh... we're all in it together - take a break. I know it helps me.

Absolutely! I totally get where you're coming from. It helped me to take a break and NOT do anything wedding-related for a couple of weeks.

I also started asking for help... initially I wanted to do it myself (type-A personality, what can I say :p) but that was just adding to the stress. So I asked FH, his mom and my mom/MOH to help with some things, and they were all more than happy to do so.

Definitely take a couple of weeks off! I will say when I am in a state of high stress sometimes my anxiety just shuts everything down, and makes me unmotivated. If this is something that has happened to you before outside of wedding planning you may want to consult a therapist or psychiatrist. Honestly I don't know how I would be functioning with wedding planning without a therapist.

I had a planning lull from about September until the last week of December. I had just finished flight school and was about to move and everything was pretty stressful at the time. I had my major vendors booked, I think it was helpful for me to just accept taking some time off from planning. If you have your major vendors booked, maybe just try to truly relax and not think about wedding planning at all for a couple of weeks.

@FutureMrsG, I have the major vendors (venue/caterer, planner, photographer/videographer, DJ, hair and makeup, invitations, wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses). I need to figure out the cake, decorations, accessories, attire for the rest of the WP and find an officiant (mine had to cancel). The rehearsal is scheduled/confirmed and the dinner plans are underway. There are soooo many little details. Everytime I look at my To Do list, I get overwhelmed and put it back down.

I'm going through this as well. I told FH to help plan and I've been feeling a lot better since. It gets so overwhelming. But soon enough the day will come
