Overwhelmed by dresses

Adrienne, on October 11, 2017 at 3:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I just started looking at wedding dresses and I'm already overwhelmed!! Any advice on how to enjoy this part of my wedding instead of being stressed out?

My advice? Wait. Enjoy your engagement before rushing right into the planning process and making decisions such as dresses. Right now if you're looking, look for fun to find your style and what works best for your body. Figure out a budget for your dress and go from there. But I recommend waiting until a bit closer to your wedding. And since you are looking early (again, no shame in that,) have fun doing it! Don't feel rushed to make a decision like that this early on.

We have been engaged for 2 years and we finally picked a date and everything else is going great except for the dress part .... I seriously thought this would be the easy part lol

Have you chosen a style that you like yet? My aunt told me today that since my wedding is a good ways away, that gives me time to try on every single style in every store LOL.

But no, really, what exactly is it that is stressing you out? Can you not find a style you like, is it the budget, or is it just an overwhelming process for you?

ETA: a belated congratulations, by the way & welcome to WW Smiley smile

Good morning! My advice is, don't stress, that is the consultant's job at the bridal boutique. Schedule your appointment, she will take some measurements, ask about your budget and your vision, and grab some samples to try. You don't have to decide right away. No need to stress. Smiley smile

So I had the same experience trying on wedding dresses. I was continually stressed out and went back to places more than once and could not decide. Someone gave me great advice...find a dress that makes YOU feel gorgeous and is reasonably priced and STOP looking. I know it might be hard to do but if you keep contemplating and questioning the endless possibilities of dresses it'll be hard to pick one. Find a fit that is flattering on you and makes you feel comfortable and then it'll be easy. I know you only get married once and it often seems like we need the perfect dress but that isn't the case.

You have plenty of time, so I can echo another PP - there's no rush, so take your time to enjoy this season. Go to a boutique and try some on to get a feel for your style and what you feel comfortable in, but don't stress about finding the perfect one right away.

Take your time. Enjoy looking, but with 18 months till your wedding you don't have to rush to make a decision. Every day there is a thread on this forum from a bride with "dress regret." Unless you find something on clearance, you have the luxury of trying a front runner on a couple of different times and taking some time to think about it. Most importantly, have fun!

I am in the same boat. I found a dress I LOVED and did not jump on it and they do not have it anymore.

I know this feeling all too well -thought it would be the best part and it was the worst - and ended up panic-purchasing not one, not two, but THREE different dresses...and I still wish I'd had a different dress on my wedding day - I felt I ended up with a safe, boring dress. You have PLENTY of time! I know you're probably excited, but please take your time. Make several appointments and don't let anyone rush you into purchasing. Take pictures of every dress - I felt different about dresses in person than I did seeing the pictures later. I binge-watched Say Yes to the Dress. Try on EVERY silhouette. I went in dead set against strapless and fit and flare...but that ended up being my favorite after a stylist convinced me to try it. Take your time!!!!

When I started, I looked through different dress styles on Pinterest and found a bunch I liked. My plan after that was to go to a bridal store and try on a bunch of styles to see what I liked best and then try on more in that style.
