Overskirt over mermaid?

Francie, on July 23, 2022 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hi!
I bought the dress in photo. I always imagined myself with a clean, minimalist and timeless mermaid (Meghan Markle style).I went to 8 different boutiques and that felt like it. i don’t plan on wearing the ribbon.Overskirt over mermaid? 1

However after the purchase I’m having all sorts of doubts. I’m getting married in a castle in Europe and I’m starting to wonder whether I should have chosen something “bigger” or more romantic. I’m slightly regretting not being more open to trying something like the Suzanne Neville here: https://www.yourdreambridal.com/wedding-dresses/suzanne-neville-hailey/ and wonder if I should have.
One idea that’s popped in my head is the possibility of adding an overskirt to make this more of a full skirt for the cerimony.
The dress is in crepe. Do you think this is at all possible/would look good? Do you have any experience or example photos?
Thank you!

Hi Francie. Is this Pronovias? Their crepe is beautiful. The dress is definitely castle worthy and dramatic. Think of how you will accessorize and how you initially imagined yourself on your wedding day. I think it's normal to have doubts because you won't see it for some time, but I'd just trust yourself. You make the dress. You (& your partner) make the wedding, not the venue.

So it occurred to me, you really want photos. So I wore 2 dresses which came with detachable overskirts (no extra fee). My ceremony dress was mikado, column shaped, modest & I wore the skirt for the bow (my dad liked it, too). Fingertip mantilla veil.

My reception dress was Pronovias with lace, 3D flowers, mermaid. I only wore the overskirt for pics. It was heavy but beautiful. Both overskirts attached at the hip. It flows behind you so you see a figure. I'm not a ballgown girl, so this was an interesting option. But, I imagined myself dancing with my hisband in something form fitting so took it off. I saw affordable over skirts with a belt tie on Amazon. They wrap more fully around. Maybe purchase and see if it's you. But, again you don't change yourself just for the venue. Best wishes!

Great pictures, Michelle. Why was it two detachable skirts though? Were they used separately? It looks like you did not need a bustle either.

Hi Michael. I had 2 different dresses that came with their own detachable overskirts so I wore each separately. I didn't post the front of the Justin & Ashley ceremony dress. Bustling does change the vision of a dress, and I was surprised and disappointed I had to bustle my mermaid. Cutting it conflicted the applique pattern I love so much.

Overskirts I think would be a great remedy for this issue.
