Over-the-arm Bouquet?

Pegs, on January 19, 2018 at 2:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

I'm trying to figure out what style bouquet I want. I had several people tell me they envisioned me in an over-the-arm bouquet. I'm contemplating it but need some opinions -

Don't they seem rather out-of-date? What is your take on them?

Do you have any photos of inspiration for some modern-looking ones?

Are “over the arm” and cascade considered the same thing?? If so, that’s what I’m planning!! Honestly never considered it any other way, I think that look is stunning and timeless!!

I don't think over the arm and cascade are the same thing... cascade goes in front of you while over the arm looks like you are laying it on your arm. There's some pretty pictures on picture, but I don't think I've ever actually seen someone with an over the arm bouquet. Could be pretty though!

I don't think Cascade and Over-the-Arm are the same thing - to Brianna's point... Cascade falls in front of you whereas Over-the-Arm rests on your arm. That picture is really pretty.

It's a different look! I love Cascade too though so maybe I'll look into that option.

My mom carried an over the arm, "pageant" style bouquet for her wedding & I think it was beautiful. It looks like it's starting to come back as a trend, too, so you might be ahead of the curve. I love the look, but I think it's more of a rustic style than what I am going for.

I dunno, I kinda think the bouquets in those pictures are obnoxiously large. Also, my sister had a cascading bouquet, and as her MOH, I had to hold it during the ceremony, and it was HEAVY AF. Seriously took me by surprise how heavy it was. And we had to be so so sooo careful with it, it felt like more trouble than it was worth. (not that I'd ever tell my sister that lol). I, personally, prefer a nosegay style bouquet, and that's what I had.

Oooohhh I love the pictures that Nikki posted! I think in order to pull it off it needs to be dramatic and large like those ones. I think smaller over the arm bouquets look a little awkward.

    I agree!
Over the arm bouquets are a go big or go home kind of deal.
They are beautiful but, as MFB brought up, I would definitely have the bridal party sit for the ceremony just so the MOH or BM doesn't have to hold the heavy bouquet for 5 to 20 minutes straight.

Agree with this! I think they need to be bigger too, but I would be worried about my arm getting tired, or the flowers/greenery irritating my arm too.

Yeah they're definitely a "go big or go home" style. I'm doing a nosegay instead because it's my style preference. But those can get heavy too depending on how large you get, especially with some of the free formed styles you see a lot of now. Instead of having someone hold it, maybe an option would be to lay it on the table if you are having any kind of unity ceremony? It lends itself to laying flat a lot nicer than a nosegay style, which needs to be put in a vase tall enough that it doesn't tip over. You could also hand it to a mom/sister/grandma to hold since they'll be sitting in the first row (if you want your BP standing that is...I always think it's awkward to have your MOH hold 2 bouquets anyway).

Lol it was a full 30 minutes that I had to hold it. and no, we weren't seated.

The first picture posted looked a little dated, but all the others are gorgeous and modern. It would not be my choice but if that's what you like, go for it!
