Outside wedding, 60 degree weather?

Jessica, on March 8, 2019 at 1:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 22
Looking for feedback. Do you think attending an evening outdoor wedding when the weather is in the middle of 60s would be enjoyable for guests or too cold? Planning a November wedding. Would outdoor heaters be enough?

I think mid-60's is fine, but anything lower would be too cool.

So 65ish will be the coldest it will be all evening? No, I don't think that's too cold as long as guests know in advance it will be outside. I also think outdoor heaters & fire pits are great ideas, and blankets as favors!

I think it's fine if guests know beforehand. But make sure to have a back up plan in case it gets much colder than that.

We had an outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour/dinner where it was in the high 60s. We had heaters after the sun set.

That's good to know! Did you feel comfortable-especially ladies in dresses?

Thanks for the input, any colder and we will have a back up indoor option, just not as nice as the outdoor area!

I was thinking about blankets as favors, but can't find any that don't break the budget, so will maybe just have some scattered on backs of chairs or on a table for guests who may want more warmth.

We have an indoor dinner area, so backup would be to push the tables out of the way and dance inside. The day I toured the venue was a rainy day and a wedding was in process, so that's what they ended up doing. The outside is beautiful though, so hoping the weather cooperates!

Totally fine if you are having heaters. Probably fine even without. Would definitely spread the word or mention on your wedding website if you have one that it is outdoors so people dress or accessorize accordingly!

I have no idea if this would work for you, but I’m a knitter and really love handmade afghans. We’re putting a Keep Cozy trunk out and have filled it with crocheted and knitted blankets we found at the thrift stores. They weren’t expensive at all! We looked them over and washed them of course. I love thinking about someone’s hard work that got relegated to a thrift store being put to use on such a special day.

When the sun sets it will be about that cool on our wedding day, but reception is at our house in the backyard and people will be able to go inside if needed also.

Thank you for your suggestion. That is such a good idea for finding cute yet cheap throws. I think now I'll have to visit some thrift shops this weekend!

I think it’s fine, I’m renting patio heaters and getting blankets for my November wedding. The reception will be inside.

You guys are really easing my fears. I must be a wimp, I'm in Florida so weather in the 60's seems cold compared to what I'm used to, lol.

Try five below, or get rolls of fabric and have it cut or cut it yourself. Also I found really nice sized blankets online at walmart and they were between $3-$5 each for my daughters sleepover

Keep in mind you don't know what the weather will actually be like in November, it maybe unseasonably cool/cold that night. I think it's too much to risk in November to have an outdoor wedding.

I’d be cold. Below 70 and I’m wanting hoodie, pants, and warm shoes, not wedding clothes. It’d be okay at like 65 and up if it was really sunny but if it was cloudy or windy and when the sun sets it’d be chill city. We were in Florida in January and it was in the low to mid 60s with a breeze and no sun and it was definitely cold. And I live in Wisconsin where it’s freezing lol. But it looks like I’m in the minority here.

I would definitely have some sort of outdoor heaters/blankets/indoor option available which seems like you are planning for. Un fortunately with weather, it can be very unpredictable. So even though it may usually be about 65 in November in Florida, you may end up with a cold front and it being colder than usual. Or hotter than usual! I would be prepared for all options just to be safe! Personally, even though I'm from Buffalo, and can deal with cold, 65 at night feels a lot different than in the sun so I would probably get a little chilly outside. Not overly cold, but definitely probably wanting a blanket or sweater eventually.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I feel the same way too. I wanted an earlier date say end of October, right before the time changes and weather is in 70s, but venue was all booked. I could have done early October, but that's still in hurricane season here. I will definitely have the patio heaters out, some blanket shawls for guests (especially older realatives) outside, and we can always gather inside as back up if need be. Also hope tights/panty hose help ladies in formal Wear stay warm. I just want guests to be happy!

Thanks for the honest feedback. I feel the same about 60 degree weather, but wasn't sure if it's just cause I'm from the south. Also plan to have indoor activities for guests like a photo booth. Is it bad that in really hoping for global warming to help me out this year with warmer than normal winter temps? Lol

Our niece got married in the beginning of Sept and there was an unseasonable cold snap...they added sides to their tent and patio heaters and no one complained about being cold
