There is no rule, as everyone has said, but it sounds like your mother would be more comfortable if she doesn’t match the MOG. I’d try to make sure they don’t match, just for your moms sake. She sounds very sweet.

It does not matter what color or style, they may be very similar or very different. Mothers choose their own, , and need to match the same level as the bride or 1 level down in formality. With reference to the other relatives or guests, color does not matter.
