Outdoor woods winter wedding

Amanda, on August 21, 2017 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 44

Anyone else have or is having an outdoor winter wedding? I hope it snows! Anywho, Id like to know some ideas of what you guys did for favors, comfort/warmth, food, etc! Here are some of my ideas (pics in comments) (cape for us, scarfs or shaws for BMs, hot drinks, soup, stand up patio heaters, etc. dance floor is inside, blankets, hand warmers, etc)

The colors are beautiful. I would think about doing pictures outside and having your ceremony inside. Sitting out in the cold for 30 plus minutes does not sound appealing. Doing photos outside with an indoor ceremony could be the best of both worlds.

Hi Amanda! As beautiful as it looks, outdoor winter weddings aren't very practical in terms of comfort for guests, even if you give them blankets as favors. If you want the outdoor feel, maybe look for venues with large floor to ceiling windows so you get comfort and the photos you want.

I can see the appeal but the idea of my guests being cold would turn me personally off.

Step away from this idea. Seriously. Your friends and family do not want to sit outside in the winter for your wedding ceremony, no matter how great it looks on Pinterest. And they don't want to be out there for the reception either. If your wedding requires hand warmers, you need another plan.

They need to be inside, nice and warm. No amount of soup or patio heaters are going to counteract adverse temperatures in the winter.

If you want to go take photos outside, you go right ahead, but don't make them be out there too.

We do elopements all winter long , but they literally require the guests to be outside for five minutes. They all arrive in one car, we shlepp outside, we say the absolute minimum we have to and off we go.

Exactly where do you live and how cold does it get? If you live in Arizona or Florida, maybe you could pull off having a portion of your wedding outdoors. But anywhere else? No, it's way too cold to expect guests to do anything but walk from their cars through the front door of your venue.

I am getting married in February and would never dream of having an outdoor wedding as beautiful as the idea is. Do not subject your guests to that.

If your wedding date is 11/3, that is not Winter, that is Fall, which is still too cold to have guests outdoors for lengthy periods of time, or even at all. Unless you are getting married somewhere tropical, which I doubt judging by the ideas you are showing us in these photos.

Try to keep reality in mind when planning your wedding. Most of the pics you see online of winter weddings are from photo shoots, not real weddings.

Have you checked what the average evening temperature is where you live? If you wouldn't willingly be outside for hours at that time of year, what makes you think your guests will?

Even if you were outside by choice, you would likely be bundled up in a warm coat, hat, scarf and boots. Do you think people are going to want to change from indoor to outdoor clothes a few times for the ceremony, dinner, dancing, bonfire etc?

By "dance floor is indoors" I hope you mean the entire ceremony and reception are indoors.

I'd come quicker to sitting outside for a winter wedding than a summer wedding. However, I would still bitch about it, and I'd probably grab two of those blankets. One to wrap around my torso and another for my legs and feet. Just ignore the sound of my shivering. I can also foresee people making one or two trips during the ceremony to get another cup of soup/hot chocolate to last during the ceremony.

Have the ceremony indoors and take beautiful pictures outdoors like PP's have suggested! You can still have the hot chocolate for guests to drink and warm up with when they arrive. It can even be your favor.

Please do not do this. The only way a winter snow wedding should happen is if you are eloping and involving no guests. I would absolutely not want to sit in the woods in the winter with no matter how many blankets or hand warmers. I would likely not come to the wedding and if I am reading that right and the reception is outside, I certainly wouldn't attend.

I'm sorry but as a guest this would not be an enjoyable experience for me. There are also health risks involved and you wouldn't want any of your wedding party or guests getting ill or injured at your wedding.

I went to a wedding were it was 60 degrees one day and then the temp tanked and it ended up snowing during the ceremony and the entire day. They had cocktail hour before (and after), so we were in the heated tent right beside the ceremony and then the ceremony in the snow. It was beautiful Smiley smile We all had our coats on and warm cocktail drinks...
