outdoor wedding nerves

on March 27, 2021 at 9:02 AM Posted in Planning 1 10
How was your outdoor wedding? We were planning an indoor reception but covid happened and we postponed twice. This year we have decided to have it with lesser people and outdoors. It makes me really nervous because no one knows what the weather would be like. Never attended an outdoor wedding. We told our guests if it rains we would take it indoors. But what about the heat? It’s going to be 4pm and Texas (Dallas) can be super hot in May. Please share pictures of your outdoor reception, how did it turn out? What did you do to prepare for bad weather? What did you do with your cake? Did your flowers look good? Lol

Hi!! Same boat last summer! After postponing, we moved everything outdoors in August with smaller guest list. We live in PA and it can get hot (75-95 degrees). I was worried as heck about weather (no back up plan, just planned to stay under tents). Like you, the ceremony started at 4pm which is great for keeping guests cool! We ended up absolutely loving it! The flowers remained in good shape too!! We had white tents that kept things cool, so that helped a lot 👍 our venue had a glass interior, so our cake was indoors and our guests watched us cut it through the glass.

I feel like you’re my wedding twin!! I’m getting married outdoors in Houston on May 22, 2021. My wedding starts at 5p. The ceremony will be open to the elements but it’s only going to last 30 minutes. The reception will be under a covered deck with ceiling fans and I believe air blowers. My venue is at a restaurant. My biggest concern is rain but I do hope for nice bearable weather that day. I’m a praying woman so I’m just going to pray for nice weather:-)

I got married a week ago in Texas. We had an outdoor reception. It was absolutely beautiful and everyone loved it.

I was nervous about the weather, too. We did have a backup plan for indoor. Our biggest concern was wind as it was really windy the days before. I hadn't really thought about wind but it's definitely important to consider, especially with decorations. It was windy in the morning and my the person who was setting everything up put sand in our vases for the centerpieces. I didn't really like the look but better than spilled water and flowers on the tables.
We were super lucky and blessed with the weather. It was around 70, sunny and the wind significantly slowed down (just a nice breeze).
We had our ceremony (1-2pm) inside, cocktail hour (2-3) inside, reception (3-6pm) outside.

We had a tent over the buffet which was good.

A friend made my cake and she had made a test cake a few weeks before that she left outside for a whole afternoon to see if the frosting would hold up. We brought the cake outside around 2:30 and cut it around 5pm. It was in the shade and held up just fine. I would talk to your baker about it
I'd definitely recommend tents. And maybe provide hand held fans and of course lots of water. I'd also make sure that all of your guests know it's gonna be outside, so they can dress accordingly. Most of our guests didn't read our website and didn't know the reception would be outside.
Lots of luck. I was a bit nervous before but I am so glad we had our reception outside as it was absolutely beautiful and perfect.

Hello, my daughter's wedding was originally scheduled for June 2020 and was postponed for August in CA. It was a late morning wedding and temperatures reached 90-92 degrees that day (fortunately it was a week before all the wildfires, so we didn't have the smoke on top of it). Fortunately with the light breeze from the Delta and shaded trees, fans, etc. it was never unbearable.

The venue provided parasols during the ceremony, industrial fans inside the tent, and we also had handheld fans ($1.00 each) which guests really appreciated. Since it was a brunch reception, my daughter had cinnamon rolls instead of cake, but the icing held up.outdoor wedding nerves 4

Thank you so much for sharing. I actually didn’t think about the wind until I read this🤣. Been so focused o. Rain and heat. So happy you ended up having a nice weather and beautiful wedding.
I’m taking notes as I’m reading this. Will talk to the baker, totally forgot to bring it up at my meeting. And I already made plans for hand fans. Yeah its on the website but I better text them as well. Thaks a lot for all the tips💕

Your daughter’s wedding looks gorgeous. I also moved it from June to September last year. She must be relieved to not worry about the pandemic anymore.
