Outdoor reception noise violations?

Ashley589, on May 9, 2016 at 8:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

If your reception is outdoors, does your venue have a certain time you have to turn the music off?

I just saw on my venue's website that they require no loud music after 10 pm. Starting to freak out as I have a 6 pm ceremony time.

Yes, ours does. Everything has to be under a certain amount of Dbs and no outside music after 10pm. We can still have music inside though so that is where our DJ will set up.

Did your venue tell you about this before hand? What time is your reception ending? Can you move the time up so you won't run into the issue. I would contact them about your concerns and see what you can do.

Okay good to know. Our venue is outdoor and indoor (kind of flows between both and the outdoor is under a tent) so maybe I'll get out of it that way.

My venue has never once mentioned this to me. I was planning on my reception going until 11:30.

Oh man, it stinks they never said anything to you about this earlier! I know that a ton of venues do have noise cut-off times, so it can be fairly common. I'd just start pestering them for more information, like @kai suggested I'd ask if you can still have music inside, or if there's just a noise level you can't exceed past 10pm.

I know a lot of times its the town, not the venue that has the noise restriction. I'd keep bugging them. Hopefully you can at least have music inside for the last hour or so...

Yep ours was 10pm too. Ours was on a Sunday though so it was the perfect time for us to end. They should have told you that before you signed your contract. Can the music be turned down after 10pm to comply with noise regulations?

Ours is 10pm too per city ordinances but before we signed a contract, they did go over that with us.

Our county has an 11pm noise ordinance. Since our wedding is NYE, our venue got special permission to continue music until 12am.

Definitely call them and get clarification. I feel like its something they should have told you before signing. Was nothing mentioned in the contract?

Our city has a 10 pm noise ordinance. We debated having the DJ and dancing outside, but decided to just keep in inside so that people don't get annoyed with the music being turned down at 10.

I believe it has to do with city ordinance. Check with the specific regulations: maybe it's amplified music via band or dj? Maybe move the ceremony up?
