Outdoor pics on grass - with a lace dress?

kellerinacat, on April 4, 2016 at 3:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

So my FILs have a great property with about 5 acres of grass and trees and flower beds. They keep it really nicely, and I've always envisioned taking our pics on their property - it will mean more to us, knowing that it's their property, and it's just as beautiful as any park we could choose.

My concerns about this choice, however, include the fact that we will be doing pictures before the ceremony and I'm a little worried about my dress, which is lace and has a chapel-length train. I'm worried that it will pick up grass clippings, bugs, sticks, and other things caught in the lawn (and god forbid we don't catch every "deposit" their dog makes in the weeks leading up to the wedding)... Also, I'm worried about asking my girls to walk around on the grass in their heels. I can always wear different shoes, because they won't show under my dress, but I'm worried their heels may sink in the grass. Cont'd in replies...

Should I just take precautions and buy them some heel protectors (http://www.heelbuddies.com/gallery)?

Anyone have similar concerns about taking pics on grass? Am I overreacting?

The heel protectors are a really good idea- I can't even count how many times I sunk into the grass during pictures (and that was just in a 10 minute time period- I wound up changing into flats because I couldn't deal with it any longer haha). As for the stains/dirt on the dress, I think a certain amount will be inevitable anyways (at least that's been my experience at my own wedding and at others' weddings). I had a lace train as well, and although it did pick up some scuzzy stuff when we were outdoors, I could remove it pretty easily just by brushing off the train periodically. There was also a little bit of staining by the end of the day, but no one noticed, and I wasn't really concerned about it.

Heel protectors are a great idea for the bridesmaids, or give them a heads up to wear flats or wedges instead! Like @NFLDBride said, some stains/dirt on the dress are inevitable but I'd definitely pick up and carry your dress in between shots and do a little clean up / picking stuff out after the pictures and before the ceremony!

Hike it up and tell them it's on grass so do what they want - heel protectors, wedges, wear another pair of shoes for pics, etc. Just hike it up when you walk.

I had so many bugs in my dress, haha. Outdoors, yknow.

I had a literal bee in my dress. DH had to flick the poor thing out of the tulle. HAHA There will be stains, but mostly on the underside of the dress so no one will see them when you are walking down the aisle. I would advise the BM's to get heel protectors or bring different shoes for extensive grass walking.

Recently did an outdoor wedding ceremony plus pictures- can't answer the heel question though because I wore flats. However my dress got pretty filthy. Grass, sticks, leaves, mud and even had bugs flying in the tulle and had to wrestle them outta there before we went to the reception! If you don't mind a little dirt you can get some beautiful pictures. I sent my dress out to be professionally cleaned, so I'm hoping all the dirt will come out!
