Outdoor morning ceremony - Summer

Mallory, on May 21, 2019 at 6:50 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
I Need thoughts on if this would be uncomfortable for guests:
my wedding is in July in NC. The ceremony would be at 10am under a white tent with open sides. It would last about 20-30 minutes max and then guests could immediately go inside for cocktail hour.

Will it be too hot? We had a morning wedding because we thought it would enable us to use the outdoor space for the ceremony but I’m still getting comments from family about the heat. Do the small hand held fans actually make a difference for comfort?

I havent looked at the at the price yet for renting small industrial fans but I’d rather not go that route if I can avoid it...

I'm from NJ so take this with a grain of salt if you want, but I know east coast weather and I have been to NC in the summer - I really think that unless you end up with a perfect July day, this could still be uncomfortable for your guests. There are summer days where it can already be disgusting outside at 8 am. What would happen if your wedding day was like that? Do you have an alternate location for the ceremony?

I understand wanting to have an outdoor wedding but I think some of the concerns you're hearing about are valid. Small handheld fans will help in that, having one is better than not having one, but again, if it's a hot morning, they're not going to alleviate all of the discomfort of your guests. Having the tent is great, but if you want to have the wedding outside in the tent I would make sure there was still a way to have air circulating so they aren't sitting under stagnant air.

I looked up the hourly weather from last year in Raleigh and it was always between 75 and 85 degrees between 10 and 11 am in July around the time of the wedding.

I’m from NC and yes it will be hot even in the morning. I’ve even seen a groomsman faint at a June 10:00 wedding. Get some buckets of ice with water bottles, little fans, and don’t be surprised if people wait inside until five min before. I don’t think fans will really do much in the humidity.

Why not just do pre or post ceremony photos outside? If you’re in a wedding dress you won’t enjoy sweating during your ceremony either.
