Outdoor lighting

Dulce, on October 21, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
We’re having an outdoor reception that is pretty secluded. The place itself will include some lighting, but we feel like we’ll need more. We got a quote for lighting that was pretty expensive and are now looking for new ideas to light up the place, without spending crazy amounts. Is it rude to leave the guests in the dark? Does anybody have any ideas?

Like how dark? It would seem odd at a reception to not have proper lighting? Could you bring in your own string lights or solar lights that you set up during the day?

They hang a couple string lights (4 total) and have light posts on one side of the event space. It wouldn’t be completely dark.

When does the sun set compared to when your event is? I think you could get away with just some extra string lighting if it’ll only be darker during the dance portion of the reception. I wouldn’t want it to be dark while people are trying to eat though.

I bought some string lights off of Amazon and strung them inside the wedding reception tent. I think it worked out great, and wasn't too expensive.

You could get a bunch of string lights, just to add to whatever the venue has. Or get those little battery-powered LED lights. They make them in a bunch of different sizes.

We’re only having our reception outdoor (we’re doing a church ceremony). So we’re doing dinner at 5 so I don’t think it will be dark for dinner.

If your wedding is in May, it should definitely still be light out around 5pm! I think you will be fineSmiley winking , maybe grab a few more string lights just in case for a peace of mind(you could always return them if not used)? Also you could ask the venue how it has worked out in the past (assuming its been fine if that's all they use!) If they have a portfolio from past weddings or have a photographer as a preferred vendor, you could always contact them to see how the lighting was for evening photos?
