Outdoor ceremony with dress train

Samantha, on May 28, 2019 at 5:24 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

Hi! Our wedding ceremony will be outdoors and reception at a hall indoors. The ceremony spot is packed dirt I will be walking on, but I have a lace train that is long enough to be concerned about. I plan to get rugs to run the isle to keep my dress as clean as possible. Do i just carry it until I get to the carpet? Does someone carry it for you? Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. I know my dress will inevitably get dirty, but I would like to somehow keep it as clean as possible for our pictures with my train down at the hall. Also the way my bustle is the the bottom of the dress is still exposed- so if it's super dirty it will be noticeable. Thanks!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot because we’re getting married outside, but we aren’t allowed to put down rugs. I think it depends on the dress if you can manage carrying it yourself or will need help. My MOH has already assured me she will make sure my train is spread out nicely for every picture because she’s OCD and it drives her crazy when it’s bunched up in pictures. If you need help before you get to the rugs, I’d talk with your MOH about it.

MOH and bridesmaids can carry it. Sometimes if you know some trustworthy kids you can have them do it too.

Agree with PP! Ask a bridesmaid or your MOH to carry your train. It'll be like what Pippa did for Kate Middleton!

Thanks everyone. Will my MOH still walk down the isle like normal and then come back? Or does she just wait for me and walk down with me?

Another option so your MOH doesn't have to walk back is if you have a younger girl like 10 or older that can be trusted with that job.

My hubby and I only had our sisters as our maid of honor and best woman so to avoid throwing anything off I had my two male cousins walk me down the steps (before I walked the aisle I came down a long flight of steps) one of the boys was helping me and the other was holding my veil behind me when I reached the bottom he let go of my veil and I walked between the chairs to the arch with my mama. The steps had those strips to avoid slipping so my veil would have gotten caught for sure.

I didn’t have this issue with my dress, but I coordinated a wedding that took place in a wooded area by the lake and it did. Group pictures and walking with other people shouldn’t be an issue if you have a designated person. My suggestion would be to make sure there is someone when you go off to take couple pictures. It’s easy to forget about it when you’re in the moment of taking pictures, so having someone is a plus!

Do you have a DOC? Seeing as your bridesmaids are walking down the aisle I do not see how they could be holding your train for you. You could hold it yourself til you get to the aisle then your DOC could spread it out or someone else you designate. I am getting married outside as well, on grass though. Rather than not mess up the flow I think I will just walk and let my train be because we are walking a longer length than just the aisle and I find it weird to have to stop at the aisle. But I have thought of the DOC idea.

I had a similar concern for my dress. My ceremony will also be outside on dirt and thought of bringing a carpet or runner but my coordinator advices against it since the ground is uneven I won’t see the bumps and holes and might trip. I think I’m just going to let my train get dirty I will also have my 2 dogs who love to jump on people so I have accepted my dress will not survive the end of the night
