Outdoor ceremony long walk from building

klimberkat, on December 5, 2015 at 10:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

For anyone with an outdoor ceremony that wasn't right outside of a building, how did you/do you plan to keep hidden until you get to the aisle? Our ceremony is in the middle of a field, and the building where the girls are getting ready is about 200' from where the aisle will start. Do I start my walk from there (hold long entrance!) or just stay blocked by my 5 girls, slowly revealing myself as they walk down? I'm considering some sort of drape or faux hedges (rental) to put at the back of both rows of chairs, so we can all stage ourselves behind there until it's our turn to walk. In the attached picture, the ceremony is in the center of that field, and the shadow on the left is from the building where I'll be. Thoughts?

When my brother got married In May the house was far away from the ceremony site as well. Her bridesmaids starting coming out one by one and there was a brief pause when it was time for her to come out. I thought it was really cool being able to watch her come out of the house and walk toward us. And it really didn't take that much longer

I actually think the long walk is way better. I attended a wedding where the ceremony was held in a ballroom that had a big staircase on the other side. Our first look at the bride was at the top of the staircase. She paused up there and made her way down before she ever hit the aisle. It was stunning.

The first venue I looked at had a long entrance. I would have had to leave the house, walk across the patio, down some steps, across a little bridge, and then across this massive yard. I was just going to go with it and hope that the song I had picked out was enough. I didn't end up going with that venue because it was literally 10x the cost of where I picked and included less. Plus it was just too big for how many people I was having. When I found my venue I knew it was perfect.

I recently officiated a beach wedding where the bride was hidden behind her mother and her MOH & BMs as they all walked down the aisle.

Since yours is a summer wedding, your BMs could carry parasols and use them to block the view of you.

I plan to go all Harry Potter and use an invisibility cloak.

I actually am in the same boat and don't know what to do yet, so I'll be following this post.

You can go two ways with this-- indulge your need for the grand entrance, and have someone (maybe the bridal party?) hold a shield (maybe a sheet?) in front of you as you walk over. OR decide you will look stunning and radiant, even if everyone already saw you, have your 'first look' where everyone can see you, then walk down the aisle. That's what we did-- in fact, many guests were snapping pictures during the first look, so we got lots of views of that.

17 years later I am just as married.

I was thinking of making doors. So once everyone was seated we could come from behind lol then I decided to screw that idea. Nothing will take away from people seeing me for the first time. We will just be gathered near the back kinda out of the way and then start when we are ready.

I wouldn't try to hide it; you have a nice long walk. I love it.

I don't think all this cloak and dagger secrecy is needed, either.

I'm less concerned about secrecy, and more feeling long and awkward. We are not doing a first look, and I have no problem with FH's first sight being from so far away. I'm just concerned that it'll take forever to get there and it will start to feel awkward. I think I'll just start everyone's walk from the house so I'll exit the house as my last girl is reaching the aisle so hopefully people are still looking at her while I approach. The guitarist will start my song as soon as she reaches the front.

Also, I was working yesterday freelance at my old job (event design) and saw these great faux hedges they have, which is really what set this off. I'll stop over thinking now.
