Outdoor ceremony in November

Hello! Has anyone had an outdoor ceremony in November as it's starting to get quite a bit cooler? What were your thoughts and do you have any tips for keeping everyone warm? Thank you!

I’m having a November wedding but I’m in Florida. I’m worried about it being too hot! Wish I could help.

We're having a February wedding and I'm consider these to keep warm Smiley smile

SC weather is pretty unpredictable so the fur shawl would be for colder weather and the scarf shawl would be for cool weather!

I think this really depends on where you live and how cold you’re talking about. We had friends get married on a screened porch in November last year and the venue had space heaters and they did a hot cider bar prior to the ceremony. The ceremony with processional was only about 10 minutes too and then we got to move inside for cocktail hour.

I am doing an outdoor ceremony in December in Washington state- so it’ll be cold. I’m doing it because my favorite wedding I have ever attended was in January- it was snowing- in Oregon. That wedding is actually one that regularly pops up when you look for winter wedding ideas. I’m basically doing what that couple did.
At that wedding, when we walked in there was a cooler with already shaken/warmed disposable hand warmers for guests to grab. Each chair had a blanket on it, too. I am adding a hot chocolate station to my ceremony, and my location is covered with heaters in the rafters. Even without the heaters at the original wedding that got me hooked on this, it was fine. I wasn’t super warm but it was so beautiful and so unique that I didn’t mind being a little cold for 30 minutes!

I agree that it is all about how cold and for how long, and who your guests are. Daughter's ceremony and cocktail hour were planned for outdoors in January, but we live in So Cal and the average temperature on her day is 60-75 degrees. She lucked out an we got the PERFECT day -- sunny, very light breeze, and a high of 78 at ceremony time -- but it POURED for five days straight the week of the wedding. She only went with her venue because it had an excellent plan B, so everything could have been indoors if necessary. Here in So Cal, we have relatives who would have thought 60 degrees was WAY too cold to sit outside for the ceremony.

I'd think about what the average temps are for your date/ceremony time in your location; and I'd still want a good indoor alternative because you just never know. If I'm going to a wedding, I don't really want to be bundled up like I'm sitting outside for a late-fall football game in a heavy jacket, covered with a blanket. Also, if you have many older/elderly guests, I'd be concerned about their comfort.

For a wedding with ANY outdoor elements, personally, I think there has to be some kind of weather-protected option, or the couple is taking a huge gamble. Good luck!

Mine is next month in NC. If it’s over 60 it’ll be outside and I bought blankets. If it’s under 60 or raining I’m doing inside and just having everyone sit at their reception table.

We pretty much have the exact same plan, but in Kentucky. Our favors are blankets. We're also planning on setting up a hot chocolate/hot cider bar if we're able to have it outside.

I'm getting married this November in NC. We have rented a space heater for the musicians and my grandma, $75. We plan to be outside for 30 min at most but if it's too cold or raining we will move the ceremony indoors (this is my venue's standard plan).

I would give the guests fluffy blankets and definitely rent a large heater Smiley smile

I had planned an outdoor ceremony in December ( we live in Mississippi and it can be 22° or it can be 68°), but we have elderly guests in wheelchairs and our outdoor location the venue provided was a sunken garden. Beautiful, but not feasible. No heaters, no place for hot cider or hot cocoa. And a nightmare and dangerous to get a wheelchair down over 20 garden stairs. Nothing but blankets we'd have supplied. So now we'll all squeeze in a small study, but at least I won't have to hear about the weather. Best wishes!!

I am getting married in NEBRASKA on 11/7/20....last week we had a 60 something degree day..yesterday we had an inch of snow and today it will be 50 degrees. I am thinking of providing blankets for the ceremony and possibly cider during ceremony too. We are in no way shape or form religious so it should be a very short ceremony so that is good in case it is chilly.
