Have the whole yard sprayed the day before or the morning of the wedding.

Put out some electronic bug killers. They have ones that are effective up to 1 acre. Surround the area with 3 or 4 of these to create an electronic barrier.

You can take a more natural approach to pest control by adding plants to your yard,or floral arrangements that mosquitoes loathe. Citronella, catnip, rosemary and marigolds have all been shown to drive away insects.

    Use citronella candles.

Use giant fans to keep the air moving.

There are apps for phones that use an ultrasonic sound that repels insects. It does work on dogs and cats too though, so you will want to make other arrangements for them.

Hi Carrie! Welcome to the WeddingWire Community! Smiley ring I think you should look into Cutter's Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellant, Lemon Scented Raid, "Flys Off," along with any other bug spray! I would recommend buying a couple and keeping them close to minimize their effect! You should also make sure you have portable fans available to keep fresh air from ventilating throughout the premises!

I should probably add that we are getting married at a resort. And that it is in a field with a mountain backdrop and a pond nearby. And we are not doing any greenery in any of the floral arrangements, it is a strictly white floral decor.

Definitely buy bug spray and keep it accessible for guests, instead of large floral arrangements for decor get some of the tall pots of lemon grass. It makes the space more intimate and also repels the insects. I also recommend spraying the area the day before the wedding in case of other bugs.

So, since it's a resort, you can't treat the property I assume?

If you can, spray the perimeter with perimeter bug spray in the morning or the night before (if you don't get rain or heavy mist after). Other options are citronella candles or tiki torches. I'd also offer a cute basket of bug spray for guests, just so they have the option to spray themselves if it's still bothering them. I've also seen things on Amazon that deter bugs with sound, so you could buy 1-2 of those cheaper ones and see if they work? Fans help too. I'd recommend buying covers for any food sitting out. We grew mint & lavender last year because I read they helped with bugs (flies, mosquitos, etc.) and it didn't help at all, just FYI. Fly traps may also be an option, far enough away from the venue so they are attracted elsewhere.

I recently went to an outdoor wedding and I had bugs up my dress, in my cleavage and in my face! It was awful! But the wedding was amazing! You may want to have cute kids work the crowd and hand out bug wipes or mini bug spray bottles. They could hold a tote with the bug spray and after the person sprays it on, then they’d return it to the tote and the kids would move on to the next guest....”complimentary bug spray” they could say!
