Hi ladies! So I'm trying to pick a venue and I'm leaning heavily toward a local park. I wanted to do an outdoor wedding with an indoor option just in case but financially it's not looking feasible. So those of you who are doing/have done an outdoor wedding, do you have any regrets? Would it have been less of a headache to just do indoor instead of worrying about coordinating everything outside? I'm not doing a planner/coordinator so I'll most likely be in charge of the set up and clean up.

You used the fact that is wasn't rainy season to justify not getting a tent. Kinda made it seem like you didn't think it could rain from November to April.

Whats the timeline for reserving a tent? Might be worth asking. We had looked into it for another venue we considered and we could add items to our order up to 72 hours before - so the plan would have been to add the tent onto what we were already renting if it looked like it would have been needed then.

    Sugar, bad idea still.

I would have canceled the day before based on the weather, let alone three days before, and it.still.rained.

Unless you have a completely indoor plan B, then outdoor wedding = you need tent. Period. The End.

Our venue is FILS backyard/barn and we have rented a tent. The ceremony will be outside, dancing, bar and food will all be in the barn and dinner is under the tent. If it rains, we plan to take the chairs from the tent (20 ft away) to the Barn and have the ceremony in there. Labor day weekend in MI is normally a perfect weekend though, but I don't want to risk it.

Our wedding was outdoors, and to honest even though we had a plan b, i stalked the weather channel every hour. It didn't rain the whole summer, i looked at the farmers almanac for past forecasts in our month..our day looked fine..Wrong...On our wedding day they said 30% chance of rain..that changed real fast.. Luckily we got our ceremony and pictures in..because it down poured for 4+ hours..

We had an outdoor ceremony, which was absolutely beautiful. But I would not have my whole reception outside. Without a coordinator, it would be a nightmare to try to get everything set up and cleaned up. Also, I would be really concerned about rain, heat and/or bugs.

ETA: I got married in summer, but depending on your location it can stay very warm or be very wet and rainy/cold by October, so keep that in mind!

In Minnesota it has snowed every month but July! September is normally a really nice month but you will never know till that day what is going to be really. I could never do an outdoor wedding without backup. It's actually one of the reasons we went from the in laws back yard to my home town. We will have the ceremony and reception at the community center of the weather does not work. If the weather is great we will have the ceremony in the park and reception at the community center.

Question, and I may just make a post about this, buuuuut some have said they did/are doing hanging lanterns. Maybe this is a silly question, but how do you light them? Or, if they're battery powered how do you turn them on? My assumption is they are pretty far above ground if you're hanging them in the trees.

ETA: I just started a thread because I realized this question is buried rather deep.
