So after much consideration we've been cutting back on a lot of little details and expenses so we can afford this wedding since we are paying for it ourselves. We don't want to consider moving the date because we've already sent out STD's and and if we keep moving the date it feels like this wedding will never happen. Since we're already having the reception at the FIL's house for the sake of saving money we've decided to also have the ceremony there. Not my dream wedding but we figure we can always do that when we renew our vows. We don't want a court wedding because we all want our families to be there and hopping on a plane and going to vegas wasn't an option either. So now it's time to research research research on how I can transform a backyard into a gorgeous ceremony/reception venue.

For ladies who have done this before, could you please offer some decorating tips or share any helpful tidbits of info. Thank you!

    @Krystle that photo is gorgeous.

    I would love the chance to DIY a backyard wedding. It would be so nice to have everything handy and take your time setting things out 100% the way you want.

    Just remember there are lots of hidden costs. You'll need to rent everything down to the last napkin, fork and glass, which involves delivery and setup fees. You might need to rent extra bathrooms or a catering station, rent a dance floor, run new electrical outlets outside to support the lighting and any sound system you want, take care of some landscaping or random home repairs to make things look the way you want them to, possibly talk to your neighbors or get a permit re: the noise or parking especially if you have an HOA......

    I think backyard weddings are AWESOME. Just look at the nitty gritty details before taking the plunge and make sure it's really going to save you money!

    You're definitely right kris...until I posted this convo I didn't realize little things like having extra electrical outlets or even a generator. Luckily the neighbors won't be a problem since they throw HUGE parties as well. We'll just have to make sure no one has a party on my wedding day. I think we'll be fine since we were going to have the reception there anyways...all we're doing now is ALSO having the ceremony there as well. I guess we'll see how it goes!
