Out of town guests

redhead3, on July 28, 2019 at 9:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hey everyone!

My fiance and I live in South Carolina, but will be having our wedding in Kentucky in our home town. We have some really close church friends here that will want to come to the wedding, and I'm struggling with the fact that they'll be driving 7 hours AND will have to pay for a room to stay the night. How have you guys dealt with this situation?? Rooms are $110 a night. I've considered paying for their rooms, but I feel like it will get pretty expensive.

If they choose to travel and pay for accommodations, it’s because they want to. You aren’t making them and I’m sure you would understand if they couldn’t make it to your out of town wedding. If it’s in your budget, I’m sure they would appreciate if you paid, but it’s definitely not necessary or expected.

I know for my wedding since it is out of town. I gave them a year noticed that we were getting married out of town. That way they can put it in their budget to afford the hotel and traveling and eating. I’m sure that they would loved to go if they were able to budget it in. I think it would get expensive if you paid for their hotel rooms unless you had it in your budget of your wedding.

You just need to give them plenty of notice to get a good deal and save money if needed. If they choose to come then they will pay for their stay. You are not obligated. Almost every wedding has people who have to travel.

Most people won't expect you to pay for their accommodations, but definitely let them know their options!

I once had to travel from MD to OR to be in a wedding, paying for a week in a hotel and airfare for my date and I.
Guests assume the cost of travel if they decide to attend. But it’s very sweet of you to think of them.
