Out of state problems

Kira, on September 8, 2022 at 12:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2
So I need to know if I’m getting scammed! Purchased my wedding dress out of state, when I bought it I paid a shipping fee $$ they asked for my address all was done says paid in full on my receipt. They called and said that my dress was in and asked if I had someone local who could pick it up and ship it because they charge a flat rate of $40 and it could be less expensive if someone else shipped it. I was confused in thinking I already paid to have it shipped to me they said no that was to have it shipped to the store which actually cost them $70 so they had to “eat” the difference. No where on my forms does it state the shipping policy. Also why would you ask for my address to not ship it and then say your $40 charge might be more after just telling me it cost you $70. They also said o should buy a dress bag from them for the shipping because it doesn’t come in one!! What wedding dress doesn’t have a bag! They continued with someone should make sure the dress is correct prior to it being shipped because once it leaves the store it’s mine regardless. They knew I was out of state so I’m just confused they have great ratings and reviews so I’m shocked this is even a problem or is this normal?!

That sounds fishy to me. I have a hard time believing they'd charge you less than whatever cost they'd incur on shipping. Did you tell them you wanted it shipped to you when you ordered the dress? I've also always seen places include a dress bag. Maybe that's how they've always done business, but I'd avoid giving them any more money if you can.

Will you be there any time in the near future to pick the dress up yourself? I'd definitely want to be there in person to verify that it's the right dress and there aren't some other "surprises" that popped up. Otherwise, maybe have someone you trust who lives closer pick it up? You can probably also find a dress bag someplace online for cheaper than whatever they're trying to sell you one as well.

A little fishy, a little normal IMO. Not for wedding dresses, but I have definitely had to pay to have something expensive shipped to the store and then had to pay more shipping to get it to me, or had to go pick it up. That definitely should be something that they tell you up front, so that's iffy to me. Could they compromise and send you pictures of the dress before they ship it out? It sounds like they've been burned with a bride before. If they have a lot of good reviews, I'd trust it. I mean, your other option is to cancel it and lose your dress?
