Out of state marriage license

Kelsy, on March 19, 2019 at 6:54 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there were any ideas on how I can go about getting my marriage license? My SO and I have decided to get married in myrtle beach south Carolina in October, but we are from Cleveland and we would have to get the marriage license from south Carolina. There is a 24 hour wait period after you file with the courts. We are trying to figure out the best/less costly way to get that done before the wedding.

I am getting married out of state in North Carolina where there is no waiting period, but we’re still going to have to just fly in the day before and go to the courthouse and hope for the best. The application is online and hopefully we can make an appointment.

You will probably have to take a trip down there. FH is going to have to make a special trip to Atlanta to get our marriage license when the time comes.

I think you would need to fly in on a Thursday (assuming the wedding is on a Saturday) to get the license and go through the 24 hour waiting period.

Is there a maximum amount of time before it expires? Can you take a weekend trip down the month before to meet with vendors (or just take a quick vacation) and get it then?

Yeah you'll need to make a trip down there to get it or come early.

Were getting married in DE and also have the 24 hour wait period. We can apply for it online then pick it up in person. We'll be getting there Wednesday, picking it up Thursday so we can have that time.

One thing to consider is what it takes to get your marriage license in the state. Some have residency rules, etc so make sure you know all of the facts first. I would go down on a Wednesday or a Thursday, apply for it, and give some buffer to get it if you can not go down at an earlier time.

Some states have waivers you can complete and they may allow you to get the license and not have the waiting period. I’d call the court, explain the situation, and see if there’s anything they can do for you.
