Out of state marriage license question

Alison, on January 31, 2020 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I am living Massachusetts, but we are planning to get married in Florida. Is there an online option for the marriage license or do we need to go to a FL clerks office in person?

(FL has a 60 day expiration on the license so it would be ideal to not have to travel to Florida twice in 2 months...)

Thanks for any insight!

Ali

60 day expiration just means that the soonest you can get it is two months before the wedding. I believe FL has a 3 day grace period but will waive that for out of town couples so you could get it the day before your wedding. I’m also pretty sure that there is no online option.

Thank you Sarah, yeah I figured it was too much to ask for an online option. We planned to go down a bit early regardless, so I think the idea to do it just before will be best. Thank you for your input!

As far as I know there is no online option for marriage licenses. We were in a similar situation getting married in NC but living in Georgia. We were able to get our license on the Thursday before the Saturday wedding when we arrived in NC - which was convenient to only have to make one trip!

I can't speak for FL, but we got married in NY (live in PA) and we had to go to NY to get the license.

Usually there isn't an online thing for marriage license. Which sucks because we're getting married in Montana and will have to go there 2 times within 4 months

We're from Indiana getting married in Florida. We'll be getting our's the day before. There is a mail service you can use to get it but it was like $250 or some crazy amount more than just going down a little early.

I live in Florida, and this is pretty much the site i used to look it up. I think its the same statewide, but you can get more specific info if you click the "search by county" link, and find the county you're going to get married in.

For example, this link is for Okaloosa County, where I'm getting married. I believe it is the same info for the entire state, except you would want to go to the clerk's office for the county youre in, for convenience.http://www.okaloosaclerk.com/index.php/official-records/37-marriage-license
