Other kid "jobs" during the ceremony?

Andrea, on January 31, 2020 at 1:41 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

My niece is going to be flower girl, and the plan is to have my nephew (her younger brother) be the ring bearer. The other day my FH asked if I could think of a way to involve his nephew in the ceremony as well. He's a great kid, and I would love to give him a special job to do, but I genuinely don't know what that would be. Any ideas would be super helpful!

We had two "flower children" and no ring bearer. The flower children were my husband's niece (3) and nephew (1). Our venue didn't allow them to throw petals so the niece carried a sign and the nephew just walked with her. Our dog also walked down the aisle. I would just let him walk down with the other ring bearer, he could carry a sign or he could just follow.

Is he old enough to be an usher (if you're using ushers, we are not). Or possibly standing at the entrance passing out programs?

Both of those are good ideas! He's 7 (or 8 I don't remember), super smart for his age, and very social. So either of those jobs might be good for him.

That's a cute idea! We could get my niece and nephew throw flower pedals together, and my fiance's nephew be ring bear.

Daughter and SIL had two FGs and two RBs (ages 10,8,6,&4 -- all siblings) and no one threw petals OR carried the rings. The girls had small bouquets, and they walked down the aisle holding hands with a brother (oldest boy with youngest girl, and oldest girl with youngest boy). Daughter had witnessed "petal throwing" not go well and wasn't willing to hand the rings over to children (BM carried them), so their only "job" was to get down the aisle. Honestly, she wasn't sure all four of them would actually make it down the aisle, but surprisingly they all did! You can pretty much call them any title you want! (Daughter had the kids sit with their dad in the second row, so they didn't have to stand for the ceremony.) Good luck!

A very good point. To be honest the one I'm most worried about is my nephew, because he's a bit on the hyper side (he gets that from his dad Smiley tongue).

I had the same situation with my nephew and my FH’s godson. My nephew is going to be the ring bearer and his godson is going to be the bell ringer who will announce “the bride is coming.” While I’d love for my nephew to be the bell ringer and “announce” my arrival, he’s too shy.

Same situation here. I have 3 nieces and a (hyper, 7 year old) nephew on my side and FH has a tiny nephew as well. We had a hard time coming up with something for my nephew to do since we're not doing ushers or programs. So, we decided on 3 flower girls, my nephew will 'escort' one of them and FH's nephew will be the ring bearer and will be walked down by FH's sister since he won't really be walking yet. That way we're incorporating all the kids and FH's sister as well.

My cousin felt left out so we made him a last minute usher and he escorted my Mother and two Grandmothers so that is an option since you said he is 8
