osu vs Michigan moved to my wedding date!

Michelle, on August 5, 2020 at 5:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

As if I didn’t have enough to deal with for Covid, now they announced the big game that is practically a major holiday in my state is on my wedding day 10/24/20....it doesn’t help seeing one of the groomsman hoping it’s a night game on Facebook like, did you forget our wedding date?

I refuse to stream it at my wedding, people can watch on their phones. It just sucks but I guess we will know how our real friends are if they decide to not come because of a football game....

I'm sorry honey but don't let this be a downer for you. Your wedding day is still going to be beautiful and I would say this as long as your friends are there for the ceremony with their full attention that's what matters and I don't doubt that they would watch your ceremony and be focused on that you know?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the college football season was cancelled before that date. The way baseball is going doesn’t make me optimistic for football.

I agree with Kelly—the way things are going, it’s looking like a high possibility college football will be cancelled anyway. But even if it’s not, I really do think you don’t have anything to worry about. Weddings are once in a lifetime, and this game happens every single year

Thanks all. I’m hoping at least it’s an early game. Buckeye fans can get pretty obsessed lol. They’re for hard fans.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel any better, I really don't think there's any way they'd ever schedule that as a night game. The thought of everyone drinking all day long and then being unleashed into the stadium (even with limited attendance) for that heated of a rivalry would be a total disaster!

My wedding will be full of OSU and U of M fans so I totally get the stress! We planned our original date around the game too lol. If I remember correctly that game is almost ALWAYS at noon so hopefully that’s also the case this year!

As Kelly said, I would be shocked if it even happens. An outbreak has already been reported in the Rutgers football team. There's no way to socially distance in football. If the MLB can't seem to make it work, with baseball being a much less contact sport, the Big Ten probably can't either.

I am not as pessimistic about the baseball season as a lot of people (and it was my team that got the short end of the stick last week... thanks, Marlins), because I think they're adapting.

However, as others have said... football is a contact sport.

Several head coaches in the NFL (LIKE THE EAGLES' *cue violent cursing*) have already tested positive, half the Rutgers team is positive...

Many states are postponing fall sports for high schools.

I don't think football is going to happen.

If it does... ugh, I'm sorry. That's a doozy of a game, and I'm not even a college football fan.

I've taught at a D-2 university (no football) and all fall sports have already been postponed until at least spring (and I believe the decision about the remainder of the 20-21 seasons is scheduled for October). I get the "big money" motivation related to D-1 football, but agree with others that it is highly unlikely there will be any college football games this fall. At least for now, I would not waste your time worrying about this one. Good luck! Smiley heart

I'm actually getting married in Ann Arbor on a game day and got this email from our hotel today: "As you may know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Big 10 Conference has gone to a “Conference Only” schedule for the 2020 season. You have a reservation for one of our home games, which has most likely moved to a different date."

I wouldn't be worried about it!
