Ordering plus size groom attire online

Lindsey, on April 13, 2020 at 9:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Hi everyone! Hope you’re all staying healthy and sane!

I’m moving forward with plans for my 9.25.20 wedding so far, which has actually been super easy to do remote. I’m hoping you can provide some insight on online tux/suit rentals for plus-size grooms?
LOL it sounds weird to say plus-size for a man, but my dude is about 5’9”, 250-260 pounds. He carries ALL his weight in his belly. His shoulders are pretty broad but his legs and arms are small. If you saw him from behind, you’d have no clue lol.
We are pretty casual people in general, but I know he wants to feel and look his best on the wedding day. Originally, I was planning on getting nice pants and a jacket from kohl’s or something, but after talking to the FH, I think he is leaning towards renting something nicer.
Does anyone have a big bellied FH who can share their experiences with BlackTux, Generation Tux, or other online retailers?
It’s so hard to find any photos of larger grooms - he is understanding my typical pain as a female shopper unable to find models that look like me LOL
We’ll probably end up going the at-home try on route, and I’m grateful that option exists, but I’d love to get some insight or feedback from anyone else in a similar boat and hear about your experiences.
Thanks in advance!

I’m in the same boat except my FH is 6’2” and 385 lbs. He’s a big guy. Very broad shoulders, stomach and no butt at all. He is very specific about what he wears for special things but has no real need for a suit. He’s a chef so no suits needed for work.
We are looking at going with Generation tux for a charcoal suit for him. We feel that will be our best option and we will do the at home try on as well. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

I’ve been thinking about this as well since my FH is 5’ 9”, 350. A lot of the tux options I see are described as slim fit, and he’s not going for that.
I’ll take a look at Generation Tux to see if that’s a viable option.

Thank you! I did read somewhere that GT had more color options vs the Black Tux. My wedding colors are ivory, gold, black, and a sh*tload of greenery lol. MOH is wearing dusty sage and BM/ring bearer will wear khaki pants, black shirts, and sage tie for BM, floral bow tie for the little guy, so I was thinking black for FH but I like the charcoal idea

What are your wedding colors? Will he do a vest or anything, or what color tie? I want him to be comfortable as well, and not too hot

EVERYTHING IS FREAKING SLIM FIT!!!! I was showing him options the other day and he said “yeah that’s great but it’s not gonna look like that on me” it actually made me a little sad for him because I know that feeling but he is resilient. (And so hot 🔥🔥 lol)

I know on the black tux’s website they have a tool where you put in the measurements and typical clothing sizes and they figure out the most likely size they’ll need. According to FH it sounded pretty accurate but we’ll see when we try on. Maybe I’ll reach out to them and see if they have suggestions on larger grooms. I also don’t want him to be in a jacket that goes to his knees! I’ll let you know what I find out if I hit them up.

We have a similar groomsman. We looked at the Black Tux but didn’t like the quality of their suit so we went with Men’s Wearhouse. Unfortunately it seemed options were fairly limited.

Did you do the home try on when assessing the quality? Anything specific you didn’t like?

I’m holding out a bit in case we have to postpone, and ideally we will have more options for in-person shopping and try on when the time comes. We have a really small wedding party (just MOH and BM) so there is no free rental incentive anywhere. Just want him to be comfortable and feel good!

Our colors are slate or steel blue, dusty pink and a lot of greenery. Bridesmaid and Jr bridesmaid will wear the slate/steel blue and carry dusty pink and greenery bouquets and then FH and best man will wear the charcoal suit. I want FH to do a vest and a dusty pink tie and the best man just the tie, no vest with dusty pink boutonnières.
When I suggested the pink ties and boutonnières his response was “I look good in pink”. LOL

Yep I looked at men’s warehouse but they had three color options for suit rental... black, light grey and navy. We have considered buying him a suit from DXL but it’s just so much money for something he most likely won’t get much use out of.

I LOVE that!!!!! It’s going to be soooo pretty and props to your man for rolling with the pink! I was gonna go with a similar color palette but FH told me “all the colors you like are whack ass pale colors from the 90s” 😂😂😂 never a dull moment over here lol

I agree. FH does construction and while it would be nice for him to have some nicer wardrobe options, that would more so apply to the outfit I had planned from kohl’s versus a full blown suit. I think renting is the move

My fiancé didn’t like the stitching being visible, he thought it made it look cheap. Personally I thought they looked nice especially for the price. But I’d recommend the home try on so you can assess for yourself.

We ended up buying the suits. They had a package for $299 which wasn’t too much more expensive than the rental we would’ve gone with.

That sounds like a good idea. We’re going to have to our FHs find their outfits. They deserve to look and feel their best at the wedding too.

Generation Tux or mens wearhouse will ship and you can return.

I still haven’t figured out exactly what we’re doing. My FH pretty much only wears jeans, no real need for a suit, but we may end up going that route. He’s not really plus size, but he is 6’5” so finding something long enough has been my issue.
