Ordering a Dress without a Corset/Altering to a Zipper

Christine, on September 26, 2012 at 2:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I am going to a Maggie Sottero trunk show tomorrow, and many of her dresses have corsets. This is something I decided I do not want. Does anyone know if her dresses (or any wedding dresses) that come with a corset back can be ordered without one? Similarly, I'm wondering if I can just order up and have the corset back removed.

If anybody has any experience with this, I'd really appreciate your advice!

Below is one of the dresses I'm looking at, the Maura, but she has about 16 I like - I want a dress with dots or point d'esprit, as we're doing a dot motif!

I wouldn't recommend changing a corset gown to a zipper - Here's why: A corset back typically has a 4 - 6 inch opening at the top, and goes to a V at the bottom. If you were planning to order up and replace the corset with a zipper, you would have to take in the waist/hip area that much! The side seams at the top would be pulled to the back of the dress as well. That would skew all of the measurements of the dress, and it would not fit well. HTH

Ahh, Christine, you are the best! I was hoping someone like you would reply. That was my worry. Seems like a lot of extra work, and not even that great of an effect.

It seems like my best option is to either see if they can make it that way custom or just refuse to look at any dresses with them if I can't.

I am not sure if you like their dresses but I think Alfred Angelo has corset yes or no options. Anyone else have experience with them? I had a bride who ordered her dress with a corset from the factory and it was optional.

That's good to know! I really want a swiss dot dress or a dress with point d'esprit, and I think they have a couple from one of their lines that have that feature.
