Ordered our Invites!

Mandee, on May 20, 2020 at 12:27 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hey y'all!

So if you read my other post about the Great Invitation Debate of 2020, you know that my fiance and I had a really sweet dinner where we went over the invitation samples and picked out the ones we wanted. Well some advice for you future brides....check the prices before you look at the samples together!!

The ones we picked out ended up being over $600 for fifty-five invites and rsvp cards! I was trying really hard to figure out how we could still get them but I could not justify that kind of cost on our budget (even if he offered to pay for them!!).

Luckily Magnetstreet was having a 75% off sale and I snagged some off of there for $155.08 (invites, RSVP postcards, enclosure cards). I don't exactly regret it, but I do regret not being able to get the invitations my FH really wanted.

I feel like I disappointed him, even though he says it's fine and it's not a big deal.

Did any of you have this kinda thing happen? How did y'all move on?

No. I bought from Costco gave FH a few choices of what I liked and thought he would too. I don’t believe people remember your invites so it’s not where I thought was best place to spend.

It sucks that you guys weren't able to get your dream invitations, but I'll be honest, paying $600+ on invites aren't worth it when a majority of the guests are probably gonna throw them out.

I personally feel invitations are at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of priorities. If he says he’s alright with it, then I’m sure he is, I personally could not justify spending that much more on invitations.

We haven't ordered our invitations yet since we are in October and thinking about postponing. Most websites make it pretty easy to see how much the invites are so I don't foresee a problem with that, but I don't think we are going to order samples.

For the STDs, FI and I just sat down and scrolled through ones we liked. They were about what we expected them to be, but when I first saw the prices on invites, I was surprised.

I'm sorry you didn't get yours and your FHs "perfect" invitations, but like some of those above have stated, at the end of the day, spending money on something that other than you (and maybe your parents) people will toss in the trash, it's not the best place to spend money.

We debated spending a higher amount on our save-the-dates, but ultimately decided to go with something very simple (postcard). We love it, the picture on the postcard was a preview to our wedding day (picture of the sunrise at our destination) and if they toss it at the end of the day, I won't be hurt by it. We'll probably do something equally economical for our invitations. People today are not as sentimental about material things as they once were, it's all about simplicity and clutter-free nowadays. So, saving a few hundred dollars on invitations that will likely be tossed, was a wise move in my opinion.

I think at the end of the day though you'll see that the invitation itself is such a small detail amidst everything. however, you might want to going forward be more careful because maybe for things like photography or other vendors or whatever, you'd care more for those or they'd make a much farther difference in your overall experience.
