Order of Toasts?

L&G, on February 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Is there a specific order the speeches/toasts are supposed to go in? Does it matter? Ours are all very short, as nobody really wants to do them haha.

There is a traditional order. I can't remember what it is, but it starts with best man, maid of honour.

I dont think it really matters. We are having 3 toasts. One from moh one from the best man, and one from my father. Probably in that order for no particular reason.

I think if you are having the host of the wedding (like my dad) or the bride and groom toasts they should be last.

I think the wedding party go before the parents. For my wedding we had it: Bridesmaid, Best man, mother of the groom, father of the bride. They were the only ones who wanted to give a speech.

The order doesn't matter too much. Go with what you think is best.

It doesn't matter. Just don't do too many of them.

I agree with everyone else, nothing is worse than sitting through toast after toast after toast. At our wedding my sister/MOH went first, then the best man and finally DH (as we paid for the wedding I considered us the hosts and I didn't feel like speaking). We also made sure to tell the DJ that the 3 people giving toasts were the only people that should be given the microphone (with the understanding that if someone else wanted to speak they would deal with DH or myself and then we would make the decision).

Our toasts are all like 2 min each, and there are 4 people - BM, Bridesmaids, FOB, and FOG. And then we will give a thank you haha. We both hate long speeches, and all our people asked if it would be okay if their speech was more of a 2-min toast. We said yes! haha.
